So i am laying a patio for my mam and have dug out the grass where the sandstone flags need to go. Got a wacker plate thing to flatten it out, but it just seems to be sinking into the clay any tips would be helpful thankks.

Not sure how to embed links (or whatever it's called) but google A J McCormack expert paving. Really good advice on there.

As far as my experience tells me you should dig down to a decent depth, prob about 6/8", lay lots of MOT type 1 skelpings, wack them down and then lay 2/4" of sand blinding. Then a dry mix of sand and cement, prob 6:1 ratio should do it tp lay your slabs on. Make sure you have a fall of 1:600 so you don't get pools of water.
