Anybody Been To Cologne?

I spent one night there.. in 1983.! It was to watch a Police gig and all I remember was the 'Sportshalle' concert venue, although bars with big casks rings a bell.. and the fact that most of the city was relatively new as it was flattened in WW2.!

There's a great bar that serves lager out of wooden casks, and good solid German food, situated opposite the Cathedral called Fruh Am Dom.

you're right - it's a good bar. They take their lager seriously, especially in there !
As mentioned earlier in the thread, lager is served in 1/3 of a pint glasses. Ask for anything bigger, and they treat you like a nutter. The theory is that if the glass is only small, the lager stays as fresh as it can be, rather than "aging" as it would do in a pint glass.....!! WTF ??

was a good weekend - not sure that I'd recommend it for a stag-do, but we had a good laugh.

Apparently Pascha is worth a visit..........

Went to Cologne a few years ago and we spent most of Saturday and Sunday daytime in the Old Corkonian, brilliant bar. On the Saturday this bloke wandered in wearing a full highland get up, Kilt waistcoat bagpipes, the lot. It was a German bloke on his stag do.

The lager is absolutely brilliant in almost every bar you go in.

Was it not kolsch you we're drinking?i think they have about 14 different breweries in Cologne.I was on that for a while, until i found the Paulaner.

there is a rule that they bring you new kölsch without order, unless you let a rest of beer in your glass. But the whole kölsch is a pain in the butt, as the city, the people, their version of german language and their rotten football club

I found the City and the people to be quite nice.
