Anyone else see the Championship becoming the 'Premier League 2' soon?

I can’t see overseas TV companies being the slightest bit interested in showing England Division 2, no matter what you call it.

I have absolutely zero evidence to back this up but I highly doubt they’ve much interest in showing the vast majority of Premier League games that don’t involve United or Liverpool.
I don’t see why not.

The Championship is the third best league in Europe attendances and is in the top ten best leagues in Europe generally anyway.

Take out the one top side from some leagues around Europe and the Championship is a much higher standard of football. I’m not sure Celtic would win the Championship this season and nobody in the rest of Scotland would get in the play-offs.

We have played (and lost!) against better teams in the domestic Cups than we’ve played in the CL at times.

I’m not disputing the quality. Or the attendances. I’m just not sure anybody abroad would be interested in it.

We hear all the time how popular The Premier League is all round the world. But is it really the Premier League or a couple of clubs in it?

I’d be interested how many in India would be watching Bournemouth V Fulham in the middle of the night?

How many in this country are interested in Bournemouth v Fulham in the daytime? That’s not really the point for me. The point is collective bargaining wrt the tv deals, and if it was all packaged as one, it would get bought imho.

Well if you were going to basically make them have second division games as part of the package to get the big games, they’re obviously going to want it. Doesn’t mean anyone would be interested in watching it though.

Rory Smith has a theory that he puts up semi-regularly on MNF which I quite like, and it is that there's about 25 Premier League teams.

Obviously only 20 clubs can be in the league at any one time, so Burnley, Watford, Sunderland, Stoke are essentially displaced PL sides and they'll come up, and some will come down, and then bounce back again.

Once you get past those 4/5 yo yo clubs who do most of the spending and make most of the money, the Championship actually is not that great financially or football wise.

So I don't think this will happen.

However, MLS is currently the 6th biggest league in the world and growing much faster than Ligue1 (which it will catch in a couple of years), Bundesliga, Serie A.

If there's going to be a big change in football in the next 10 years, I think it might be in the amount of money going into MLS, and the quality of players they get, and going past some of the bigger european leagues.

Let's just go back to calling them Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 and drop the pretentious names.
They were called the First Division, Second Division, Third Division and Fourth Division rather than Division 1, 2, 3 and 4.

But I agree.
