Anyone here just packed up the car and done one?

There is a lad at our work who is leaving at the end of the month, going round the world, on a push bike, taking a tent, reckons it will take him 3-4 years. mental, but good luck to him.
Me and my tent did Crete April to November 12 years ago after divorce, if present wife fucked me off anytime i would do Greek Islands for a Summer

My job is dreary to say the least, last night I sat down with a drink and a smoke and thought how would I sum up what I do in one word and the word that came to mind was pathetic! The money is ok, not great, but I do get perks. I've just had hip preservation surgery and I'm extremely lucky to have had 8 weeks full pay. But, I've had to put up with snide remarks this week, my first week back. I assume the to$$ers here think my procedure was a holiday.

Anyway, I've heard of people just putting their belongings in their car and heading off into the sunset. I own a house I could rent, and have a dog. No woman worth staying for, but where do I go? I'm thinking Amsterdam. Anyone else just upped and left?

What do you do ? Workwise

I did 2 and a half years ago, best thing i did.
Marriage broke up and living in a one horse town outside Boston. The snow came and came 4ft every day for a month and it thought fuck this. Packed the car up with everything I had. Drove to Florida with no job or home.
Two weeks after arrival I have a job with a free home! Love it (hurricanes apart)
My son lived in Pennsylvania and hated those brutal winters. So as soon as he graduated from uni him and his wife packed up what they needed, sold everything else and drove for 3 days to Phoenix. He's got a good job there and loves it

Yep,i met the last husband on holiday and gave up my job and moved across the other side of the country to live with him after a couple of months,so long as you have a plan b in case it goes tits up then go for it,it started off a 15yr marriage so it paid off, divorced now but wouldn't have done any different looking back,it's good to take some risks in life

Amsterdam is not a cheap place to live boss, cash worries would creep up faster there than say Bulgaria etc which has some lovely places, croatia is stunning.

Thinking of doing one to a nice island for a long weekend but reading reports of dodgy wifi. It may be the best lagoon villa on earth but if the net drops i'll lose my shit and not enjoy it. That may sound daft but keep in mind stuff liek that, comforts or otherwise that you must have. Consider that wherever you go matey.

Do it though, the worst that could happen is you come back after a break, don't burn bridges at work though.

Tell him to read Mark Beaumont's book, "The Man Who Cycled the World". It's brilliant and will give him a good insight into what he wants to do.

Mark is currently on day 61 of his tour of the world in 80 days on a bike so tell him he need to up his ante a bit too! A really inspiring guy.

In answer to the OP, I'd love to but married to a lady for 28 years who values family time a lot and would never leave the area. I'd love to move to Wales or the Lakes and open a hotel but she's not having it. And they're both around an hour away.

Yeah, but only because the Guardia Civil were about to break down my front door.

The world is your Oyster and you pick Amsterdam! Lay off the smoke it's clouding your judgement. South East Asia is the place I'd choose but I've got 3 kids and too many loyalty points to ever think about doing thst, just yet.
