Anyone here who doesn’t own a house?

You should come and live in Wales and as long as you are poor and can only speak Welsh, the Welsh government are practically making sure that happens.
I’m Welsh and that’s a daft thing to say. There isn’t a first language Welsh speaker who can’t speak English.

Hoping there'll be a huge crash and all the greedy landlords who ripped tenants off go bust. And all the people who cannot afford a house are suddenly able to buy a nice comfy 3 bedroom semi. Stranger things have happened.
Yes but it's still no win. House prices crash but the borrowing rate will be touching 10 per cent interest.

House prices firm up and the rate goes to 2 per cent. Like it has been for the last 10 years or so. (Apart from last 6 months or so)....

It's all the rage nowadays. Every new build I look at is leasehold. One studio I went to look at was 215k on a 103 Yr lease with a management charge of £1600 per year. So to keep the windows painted, the roof slates in good order, the communal stairways lit and a few pot plants watered they charge 10 studios a whopping 16k per year. Probably do all repairs and maintenance in 2-3 weeks.
Even if you find new builds with free hold land, most of them still have "service charges" to cut the communal grass and up keep the communal fences etc. And there's no way out of it. As we found out when we sold our 4 year old new build 18 months ago. It nearly put the buyers off!
