Could you please give an intelligent explanation as to why you overtake other trucks on dual carriageways because you are going 0.0000000000000001mph faster than they are? Thus creating a backlog of traffic for 15 minutes whilst your fat arse finally finishes overtaking and pulls back into the inside lane.

Thanks.

Someone slowed you down for a minute or 2 on your journey, Diddums.
Unfortunatly HGV's are restricted, there is some variance in the speeds as its done by pulse from the gearbag, but as with any other form of movement, if your going faster than the person infront you go for the overtake, the other wagon may pull better uphills, have a heavier load and have more gravity downhill, or the driver of the wagon in the inside could just be a complete flid and not think to let up the gas for 5 seconds to let the other go past and free up the lane,
But at the end of the day, we just want to get to our destination and sometimes get home too,
All I can end on is that you should just deal with it, its not the end of the world, or will it cause the end of the world, You need HGV's more than they need you.

I can agree that there are certain times that it is appropriate for a truck to overtake (obviously) but the number of delays caused by HGVs on motorways is ridiculous. I'm sure some drivers do it on purpose - I'm not labelling all HGV drivers the same as I don't want to be classed the same as a lot of other car drivers.

Re the it won't cause the end of the world comment - with the way a lot of drivers drive there are more chances of accidents when trucks are clogging the motorways, albeit mainly the car drivers fault but the trucks are a factor.

Some HGV drivers road sense does leave alot to be desired, but then again some of the things I have seen car drivers too isnt that saintly either, but I am gonna do a little piddle on your chips here,

Delays caused by HGV's - I regulary stomp along the inside lane of Motorways keeping up with the flow of traffic, have an empty lane next to me and an outside lane packed with cars going at a slower speed than me, fault of the HGV? If the car drivers thought and used lane disipline (or however its spelt) then there would be 2 lanes flowing at a quicker rate.

As for clogging the Motorways, unfortunatly the HGV needs the motorway to get around the country with their goods 'quickly', to say a HGV clogs the motorway is massivly unfair, if you took all the HGV's off the motorway you would still get jams FACT.

To have an accident with a HGV the car driver must be stupid, harsh to say but do you really want to argue with 30 tonne of pain? When I am in my car I give HGV's distance to try and prevent a possible accident, god only knows what kind of mentality it takes to hang around in a blind spot of a HGV, it may hurt your ego but give the big fucker abit of respect as its wheels (wheelnuts) can open up the side of your car like a tin of sardines.

As I am here defending my trade (or pissing in the wind) it amazes me how many people dont know how to join a motorway/dual carriageway from a slip road, scary scary shit.

I'd like to be able to take a side in the discussion above, but I can't. Inconsiderate bastards in a 40ft-er, or inconsiderate bastards in a Nissan Micra/ Volvo estate. They'd all be first against the wall when the revolution comes...

;)

I don't drive a truck, but I drive a coach, which is limited to 100 Kph/62 mph, but it is still a large vehicle, and I will try and explain what it is like driving a large vehicle on the road these days as best I can.

Difficult.

You would not believe the patience most professional drivers of large vehicles exhibit on the road. And it is patience. It has to be, as there would be carnage otherwise.

Most car drivers have an inflated ego regarding their abilities. 80% are brain dead, the rest are downright dangerous. I spend most of my working day trying to keep out of trouble, keeping 50 odd people safe.

I'm sorry if being held up for a couple of seconds is an issue with you. I can get held up for miles. Your brain would explode if you had to deal with what I do.

I face the roads every day, as you do. You know shit happens. There is no point letting it get to you. I would have had a heart attack ages ago if I did.

Try driving along a motorway with a vehicle like mine, restricted to 62 mph, with cars buzzing about all over the place. It aint easy.

I have to keep on top of the game more than you will ever appreciate, and if I slow you down for a second, I honestly don't care.

Drive one and find out. It's not as easy as driving a car.

One HGV overtaking another HGV because the first one's going faster? Sounds like good lane discipline to me. He may not complete the manouvre in a couple of seconds like you'd want, but at least he'll do it after 1 minute or so.

The worst problem is the middle lane hoggers. I spent 3 years commuting from Stockport to Liverpool every day, so I'd consider myself quite competent at motorway driving.

But coming up the M6 on a Sunday is just a nightmare. The fast lane is littered with cars presuming they have a divine right to be there, when in fact, they're clogging up the motorway and the other lanes. Drives me mad. That's what causes traffic jams and accidents. If everyone just followed the rules with regards lanes, the motorways would move easier and there'd be less accidents due to erratic driving.

because they're carrying weight and its all about building up a head of stream when you have a heavy load, if you slow down because you are in the slip stream of another HGV you will struggle to get going again, so you pull out and the wind hits you thus slowing you down. Annoying for cars I know but believe me as an ex driver not as annoying as risking your life every day in a vehicle that hardly moves all for the sake of a couple of hundred quid at the end of the week. cars want to get home, the truck drivers do as well.
