Re: Manchester City make the biggest loss in football history

£198 million, most of it put into English football and the british
and local economy, money that would never have been there.

On behalf of Britain and Manchester....Thank you, Sheikh Mansour

The £197M didn't actually get lost. There was no gaping hole in the accounts. The difference between in and out was levelled by the Good Sheikh dipping into the petty cash. But there's no story to say that we are still better off financially than most of the footballing world!

David Conn does a review of all PL club's accounts about this time of year. It's not anti-City in any way, just completely factual and is one of the key feature articles for those of us interested in football finance. I can assure you that while David may have concerns over the nature of modern day football (which are mostly well-founded) as a City fan he is pretty happy with things.

We did make a record loss but most journalists haven't really got the nous to understand that it's our accelerated spending that has caused this. We will have a much higher wage bill until we get the players out that are surplus to requirements and the squad settles down. Plus amortisation will be high for a couple of years until the large number of players we've brought in in the last 3 years either leave or sign new contracts.

Then there's the other factor that most don't get which is the commercial power that our owner has. It's now seen as wise for any company that wants to do serious business in Abu Dhabi or with ADIA controlled businesses, to do some commercial sponsorhip deal with us to oil the wheels. There is going to be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over the next couple of years among those who claim we won't meet FFP.

One of the big issues with fffp is that it is subjective. We may think we are compliant but may be told that we are not. We may think someone else is way worse than us and be baffled that they are passed as ok. I think we'll fail because we are not accepted. They'll fail us them force us to sell players at a loss and then once we are put in our place they'll let us in. To avoid that we may have to just abandon CL for a few years but some players will leave because of that. I don't think Platini and others will be happy until our party is spoiled - I honestly believe they think we need a boot on our throat for daring to reach above our station. I hope I'm wrong ... :-(

You are on a wind up aren't you!

Bloody hell, I take it your glass is half empty? I see where you're coming from though, anything to stop City.

Not winding up. I think Platini and others will not fight fair. They will feel like fools if we pass. To make it look like fffp is worthwhile we have to fail no matter what we do. If I was a betting man i'd bet on us failing while Real Madrid or Psg pass. We will be given the same logical as explanation as we've received for extra time in the 4-3 v united or the Kompany sending off. Well think its ludicrous but everyone else will tell us it makes perfect sense.

Sorry to be negative but we are dealing with idiots with power who hate us.

I'm not sure why you back Conn so vehemently PB, he drags us down.
