Anyone travel to Ashton from the Etihad?

We drive from Scotland and used to park in the park and ride at Ashton moss and get the tram in and out. We sacked that off after a season because the trams after the game were a bloody risk to life and limb. I was in correspondence with the tram co at the time who promised all sorts of improvements. It sounds like it is just as bad. We now park near the stadium.

i think you would probably have to wait at least 1 hour after a game for it to be comfortable on a tram to ashton

iv seen them.going the other way back into town from the stadium and they are seriously rammed

My wife suffered a crush injury. That’s why we sacked it off.

Its a bit convoluted but the easiest option may be to walk up to Clayton lane next to the tram stop and get a 171 or 172 that goes down Clayton lane and comes out on Ashton Old Road. Then get a bus there up to Ashton, the 171 and 172 alternate so they are every half hour, if you just miss one you can always call in at the Vic, Grove, Bridge or Con Club for a pint while you wait for the next one.

I use it to get back to Levenshulme and yesterday there was only me and my mate on it. Unfortunately after the game the bus is at 1 minute past 5 and they do tend to run on time, so if you want to get that one you have to be pretty quick. Hence the pint in the pub option if you miss that one :). Just walk along the tram tracks up to Clayton Lane.

I hate getting on rammed trains buses trams so if i have no rush to get back for anything i just go for a couple of pints after the game for an hour then get on an empty ish one

Sorry, I’m not sure which forum this belongs in (sorry mods!).

I’m quite new to Ashton Under-Lyne and today was my first time travelling to and from the game from here. It was a bit of a nightmare getting home, buses seemed to just not exist and trams seem to take about an hour to leave.

Does anyone drive to and from Ashton on matchdays and fancy a passenger in the car? Happy to pay £5-10 each game for petrol/parking/whatever. I’m a very normal bloke. I sit with my Dad but he resides in Stretford so no dice there.

Any help would be appreciated!
Hi pal, we run a bus from the Sycamore in Ashton, (next to Stamford Park), we could do with a few more people so we can up to a 31 seater, you're more than welcome to join us, it's about £8 return amd you can take a beer on the bus, all lads, lassies, and kids welcome, £5 for young uns.

I have never travelled from Ashton but have done it a number of times from Ashton Moss if we travel from Edinburgh by car. There is a big park and ride available and a Premier Inn. Going to the match is rarely a problem as the trams are usually comparatively empty until Droylsden.

It is more of a issue coming back. We have only done that a few times as we usually go into the centre for a meal if staying over.

It is certainly far less hassle that driving to the ground and parking there.
