To be fair, I do like the operating system and I do have a triple-booting hackintosh netbook. What I'm not a fan of is spending double (as an absolute minimum) my money to get the same specs and be told I can't upgrade my hardware because Apple still owns it and essentially I'm renting the hardware from Steve Jobs' ghost.

However, Apple is heading headlong down the road of the walled garden. Once OS X becomes essentially iOS for the desktop, I'll never touch it again. I refuse to be told what I can do with my own hardware and what software I may or may not install. They've got no respect for their customers at all. They basically pat them on the head in a condescending manner and tell them it's all ok because Apple is there to do all their thinking for them. Apple will make your decisions for you, because they are too complicated for a mutt like you.

Roll over so I can tickle your tummy, good little customer, good little customer. Wag your tail. Wag your tail. Walkies. Fetch.

Top reasons why Macs suck:

10. You can't use 5-1/4" floppy disks.
9. You can't go shopping with your friends for a Sound Blaster board because Macs don't need one.
8. Your 500 MHz G4 Mac does integer calculation equivalent to a 1,8 GHz Pentium, but you can only brag about 500 MHz.
7. Networking a Mac is not an impressive feat.
6. Macs don't come in black, and we all know black cabinets make computers faster and louder.
5. You have to add a system extension to make Mac menus stay down like Windows. We like pokey menus because it's too hard to hold that heavy mouse button down while we read.
4. And the Mac mouse is too slow. We want our cursor to fly wildly off the screen when we twitch our wrist because hyper cursors make our PCs look faster.
3. You just plug Macs in and they work. Where's the challenge in that?
2. When you add stuff, you just plug them in and they work, too. Again, no challenge.
1. Your clients and teachers know about Numbers 2 and 3, so they expect Mac users to deliver results, not excuses!

The OP should have an easy time offering phone support on Macs.
No one will ring him, cos Macs don't break every two fucking weeks.

...apart from the CD drive, which has started ejecting without playing. After trawling through pages of forums with people who have the same issue but no solution, it would appear that this is a well known hardware issue which Apple are aware of, but of course it happens just as your Apple support runs out!

Now have a gorgeous iMac with no cd/dvd drive! Grrrrrrrr

Macs are made of the same hardware PCs are made from; Intel processors; Nvidia or Intel graphics; generic chipsets, RAM and hard-disk from vendors like Samsung. They're put together in Asia in the same factories. Apple do not have magical powers and can make the same components more reliable just by slapping an Apple logo on them. The ONLY difference is industrial design. Apple is one of the better companies at this, as it should be, because they make sure you pay for it, but still, they are NOT more reliable than higher-end PC manufacturers: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/ ... rt_ranking

-- Tue Feb 19, 2013 10:09 am --

Never bought anything Apple.
I just refuse to be ripped off,as well as the snobbery attached with owning one of their devices.

So what if Windows is shit?
I enjoy having a play around, throwing in new Hardware and so on.

Google's coming along nicely I see, starting up their own shops in The USA.

Reasonably priced hardware running on an "open" OS,making their money on the after market as they're presuming you'll use Google.com services

I like Google, but unfortunately their roadmap isn't going to be one that appeals to me. We're going away from having raw processing power in the hands of ordinary people, at least, in proportional terms. Of course the processing power overall is still increasing with smartphones, but I think it is so revolutionary to have that amount of power out of government hands, or the hands of big business, that groups like Anonymous have the ability to do what they do, is fantastic. Google are inevitably going to be part of moving away from it. Not just cloud computing for data, but for actual processing. I don't like it all. I hate to think of the world where processing is done in clusters and simply transmitted to you. It cannot result in anything but power being taken out of our hands and given to big business and government.

For work i have windows 7 laptop - is ok

At home have a mac book pro - Is so so so easy to use and is so much quicker and nicer to use, plus it looks so much prettier and it boots up quicker and the screen is far better etc..

Personally i've used apple stuff for a number of years and i like it, but others hate it.. each to there own!
