Remember all those fallen on ANZAC day.

My great uncle Johnnie O’Brien, wounded during heavy fighting in Gallipoli in 1915 and taken to hospital in Malta with bullet wound to hand. He returned to action at Dardanelles were he was wounded a second time from a badly shattered shoulder blade caused by shrapnel. He had to be discharged from the army due to both injuries. Unable to fight he returned to France and helped the war effort by working on the railways.

A true hero in my eyes anyway

A disaster caused, in the main, by our own Winston Churchill.
It was and it cost him his job in The Cabinet.

Apparently he was haunted by his descions at Gallipoli for years and admitted in his diaries (which are a fascinating read) that it actually made he ultimately a better person and he was too young and naive to make those decisions.

The day he became prime minister in 1940 he wrote

"All my past life had been a preparation for this hour and for this trial"

I visited Gallipoli in the mid 70s, incredible place, empty and eerily silent.

Broken , rusting wrecks of landing craft still in the water and bullets, human remains could still be found in the dunes above the beach.

Incredibly beautiful war graves incredibly well looked after near the shore line.

I was a young kid at the time but the experience had a huge impact on me.

We, Britain, nearly wiped Australia off the map.
Our 2 wars decimated the population so much, by the mid 60's the country was on its knees.
The £10 pom allowed the country to rebuild.
The point I am trying to make is we, the British should always remember what the Anzacs gave up and sacrificed for a war thousands of miles from home.
The Royal Service Legion Club near my sons still stand as the last post is played at 6pm EVERY DAY.
