Yes, when Grandad died it felt like the programme was done for, but Uncle Albert was introduced brilliantly into the story and he was just perfect as he got everyone’s sympathy from the off and the dynamic between him and Del, who didn’t want him to stay, was the work of genius. We got to see Del being nasty and also vulnerable as he missed Grandad, but we all knew it was underpinned by David Jason grieving Lennard Pearce.Uncle Albert.

The look on Del and Rodney’s face when Albert recalls the tales of the relatives he has stayed with and how he comes “back from a trip to the shops” and they’ve moved!
