I'm looking to buy the new Apple Macbook to replace my historic Dell desktop.

My main concern is opening traditional word and excel files. Can they be opened through the operating programs which come standard with Apple computers?

I have heard that they are the dogs bollocks, especially these new aluminium ones.

Whats people's verdict to Macbooks? Is it worth waxing out 900 quid?

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac... Made by microsoft and just like using any office application (word, excel etc) on a PC...

Macs are quality in all honestly mate and don't have many of the compatability issues that they used to have...

I have had mine all through uni and never had any problems with it.. now i've been given a dell one from work which is shite and reminds me how never to buy another pc again...

My advice is buy it..... ive got the Imac, ive had it for 4 years and haven't had a single problem with it, no pop ups no virus......nothing. i am also running internet explorer on it as well as all the other Mircosoft programs excel, word, power point etc although safari is miles better than Internet explorer.

once you go Mac you dont go back.

i just downloaded all the windows programs from limewire. also not sure about this 20% off sale but check out uk hot deals i know people have been talking about it on there.

Get one, you won't regret it.

As for office, like everything else on the internet, it's free if you know how.

I've got a new MacBook, (the aluminium one) it's by far the best computer I've ever had. I transferred all my PC files over to it no problem.

It'll take a bit of getting used to if you've been using a PC, but once it clicks, you'll wonder how you ever managed without one.

This...

Although I now use Firefox browser on my iMac but whatever, they piss all over PCs!

I got one a few weeks ago. They are fantastic

Battery life is superb, it lasts about 4 or 5 hours. My other laptop only used to last about 1hr 30

They take a bit of getting used to, but they are much better than a PC. Quicker, dont crash, and I havent got a virus or anything else nasty yet.

The main things you will need to get used to are
1. The close, maximise and minimise buttons on a program are in the top left insted of top right on a pc
2. Only one mouse button. I have only just found out that to right click something you can press ctrl + mouse button

you can enable two finger tap on the pad to right click and scroll. If it's the new one there are other "gestures" too

How do you enable that?

Its not the brand new ones. Its about 6months old, I bought it off a mate for £300, because he needed a more powerful one for some design program

How? Seriously, PC's feel prehistoric in comparison.

Windows is unbelievably shit.

Why are there so many Mac forums for problems then?

I find that funny.
