Are mobile phones safe?

I dropped mine on my foot a few years back and it hurt my toe. Thank fuck it wasn't an S3 or I lost the foot.
 
Alcohol and cigarettes are extremely unsafe but they're multi-billion pound industries.
 
My mates girlfriend died a couple of years ago from a brain tumour. Before she passed away the specialist seeing her told them that as a human race we are doing something wrong as there's a massive increase in brain tumours and that she only ever uses a pager and wouldn't let her kids have phones.

The side of my head got a bit warm if I used it for more than 20 minutes - which was most of the time as it was in constant use.
