Are we light in Central Mid now?

I think I agree with the original post.

Our full backs are going to bomb on more next season so we need at least 1 midfielder who plays a more defensive role. The only ones on the list who can play the role are:

Yaya
Fernandinho
Danilo
Gundogan

The first two are ageing, I wasn't convinced Gundogan could play the role last season before he got crocked. There has to be a risk he is a further diminished force. I have no ides about Danilo.
 
We need an excellent strong, powerful and fast DM to guarantee doing well this season.
Chelsea are upgrading too and will still win the league in my opinion.

Chelsea were good last season, but let's not forget that they had absolutely no European games. Their best players all played about 42 games. Next season, they'll be playing between 50 and 60 (Hazard played 62 in his first season at Chelsea) or they'll have to rotate a lot more. And nobody has retained a title since 2009, so it's very difficult to do in the PL.
 
We will be light in certain areas, every team is. There is no perfect team in terms of strength in depth

And Chelsea have already upgraded their squad for about £150m and will buy 3 more players at least - coming in at at a total spend of between £275 & £300m.

The competition for a starting place in the front six is incredible. Maybe make it the ''magnificent seven'' with Walker, Kompany and Mendy at the back.....it sure is gonna be fun to watch next season.
 
I think we need a proper sergio busquets type player but really can't think of any available our cm are very attacking, defensively we have fernandinho and maybe gundogan if he is fit and adapts to the role. Don't think yaya would put the work in in that role anymore and the rest of our cms lack the physical presence needed. I honestly think that william carvalho or badstuder could be a decent opinions for the role if the price was right. Could you imagine real away with fernandinho out we would be shredded I know people are saying danilo can do the role and I hope they are right but I have never scene him play in that position.
 
I say yes, but then I remembered we had Gundogan. Still, I think a Fabinho type would be a good addition to the team.

I do agree that in most games it isn't an issue but against the top sides it is. We need a top class holding midfielder. Someone who can protect the central defenders and carry the ball forward. The type of player that makes a late run into the box.

It's concerning that the spine of the team is short of players. We need a top class central defender;, a commanding central midfielder, as described above and another striker.

I feel we are going to have to be patient.

Yaya too lazy and not mobile enough.

Fernandinho not got the legs he had and isn't a holding midfielder.

I thought the main reason our centre backs were all over the place last year is their lack of protection and if we decide not to address that I fear more of the same.

Totally agree. Our DM getting burnt for pace and getting outnumberrd was our biggest defensive problem last srason. It hasn't been adressed for this season IMO and it will cost us. Sure we now have faster more mobike fullbacks who can come inside and help out, but it's still a major problem and against the better teams it will cost us.
 
Yaya was a very effective lone cdm last season as he is an intelligent footballer.. You dont need to be a mobile headless chicken to be an effective that position.

I don't think we're short of options in midfield, as such. I do think we could do with a specialist DM though.
 
I think we'll 'manage' this coming season and then make the position next summers priority,perhaps the academy may even produce someone,we do have talent/potential in this area.
