Are we losing sight of things here?

If you want to make a comparison with similar backing, Arab money, just look at PSG. They have a similar quality team/squad, but look miles ahead of us when it comes to performances on the pitch.

CL aside with similar quality opposition, you cant compare the rest of the Pl to Ligue 1 mate.

Genuine question

Do you think we are being a bit self entitled/rag like about all this?

Fact of the matter is we are 3 points off top spot and still in all the cup competitions

Handful of years ago I'd have given my left nut to be in this position yet I found myself being particularly angry about our result yesterday..despite the fact Stoke away should never be a 'gimme' result

We have been playing pretty bad as of late..but if this is the position we find ourself in from playing bad..surely it bodes well for the future when we start to play well again?

Its not the league position or even the defeats that are the problem.....its the manner and the reasons behind those defeats which are the managers inability/refusal to change his approach to the way he wants yhe team to play despite key players being out or off form...an easy example of this is trying to play the same way when we have bony instead of sergio.. .now i know bony is playing like dog shit but we arent helping the fact that with the way we are playing we arevwanting him to prform like kun does which he simply cant do. ...yesterday he could have had a midfield 3 of fernando delph and ferna but no he opens us right up ......either stobbourn or nieve

Yes, not only because we're still well placed in all competitions despite the injuries, but also because we are only 1/3 of the way through the season. Let's assess in May wether the season has been successful or not. In my eyes, a premier league title, league cup and CL quarter final would be a fantastic season, and despite recent disappointing performances, we're still well placed to achieve all that.

I wouldn't be suprise if every one was fit that he would have played the same side too because of Tues game

I'm not comparing the leagues, I'm comparing the way in which they play football compared to us.

Yes PSG are head and shoulders above any other team in Ligue 1, like we should be in the PL with our squad, but don't think for 1 minute Ligue 1 is full of poor teams, as it isn't.

With our squad we should be well ahead in the title race by now. Instead we're now in the mix, with Arsenal and Leceister away to come in the next month.

The days of teams routinely running away with the Premier League are over for the foreseeable. The sooner people realise this, the sooner they'll stop suffering from neurosis every time we get beat.

This. The coming seasons will see the Stokes, Watfords, leicesters etc spending £30, £40, £50m on players, never mind the established sides and title rivals, such is the money coming into the game and they are going to be fucking good players and they are going to be very good, competitive games.

Its not FIFA with the cheats on!

I'm not sure why people think we should be immune from this development. Chelsea, Arsenal and united aren't. Why should we be any different? That people think we should be, strikes me as a sense of entitlement, especially given our injuries to key personnel this season.

I love the competition, bring it on as it makes our league and our football the best to watch anywhere in the world.

Remember the moaning by virtually every blue when we watched from the sidelines as the rags and Taggert swept all before them year after year?

"Fucking boring" was the cry.

Can we come out on top despite it all?

Damn right we can and we have our plans in place to ensure we do more often than not.

Football is changing....and we have a dinosaur in charge.

Guardiola / Klopp / Simeone all insist on high work rate throughout the team (only Messi at Barca was given a "pass")

There are 3 types of teams trying to win trophies:

1) Teams full of quality players but tactically a bit stubborn.
Why should we change ? We have better players than you!! (Real Madrid / Arsenal / Ourselves)

2) Teams with good (but not elite) players who collectively buy into team work ethic / pressing game / counter-attack style etc
We will work hard + see where it gets us (Liverpool / Spurs / Atletico Madrid / Leicester etc)

3) Teams with great players that match work rate of teams in category 2 (Barca / Bayern Munich / Borussia Dortmund before losing best players)

I want us to move from being a type 1 team to a type 3 team where we can take on all types of opposition + adjust tactically to demands of a particular fixture...
without losing attacking instincts.

Pellegrini is not the manager who will help take us there.

Arguably we are trying to transition to 3. Doesn't happen overnight

This. the teams below us are getting stronger and we like chelsea, arsenal .... aren't going to win every game. we are still in a great position to win the league. yesterday wasn't great, but going off here you'd think we were bottom of the league.

Not in the slightest. The players and management are falling well short of what can be - and is - reasonably expected of them in their position. It is right therefore that they are called-out for their continual failings. We are in the main incredibly loyal and very patient. But we are not a bunch of "you were shit once so shut-the-fuck-up-moaning and be grateful for anything remotely better" fucking simpletons.

We need to focus on Arsenal away.

Play Tuesday and see what happens, that'll sort itself out but we're through anyway.

Make sure a team is put out that can beat Swansea. This could be the inspiration that Bony needs. I almost hope for a narrow win so we go away to Arsenal as the underdogs with the media baying for Wenger to stick it to us.

Then, we go there. Try to see who we have back and play it like a title decider. We could go into Christmas on top with a near full squad. Pellets just needs to realise what playing MDM seems to be doing to the confidence of the defence at the moment.

Come on City!!!

Great post. Totally agree

Yes PSG are head and shoulders above any other team in Ligue 1, like we should be in the PL with our squad, but don't think for 1 minute Ligue 1 is full of poor teams, as it isn't.
Sorry, but most of those teams, given a full year in the PL would get relegated (or be in relegation trouble), technically they may play better football, but if they were playing in the PL week in week out, they wouldn't compete enough. So PSG can easily rest players for the CL, their league is neither as competitive, nor aggressive, and considering they have a squad similar to ours in depth, they will suffer less injuries (hardly difficult), and consequently be able to run away with the French League, where nobody else has anywhere close financially, AND then look better in the CL.

There's no doubt we're underperforming, but our injuries are killing us, and the injuries are to key players, leaders of the team, Hart, Zab, Kompany, Yaya, Silva, Aguero, does anyone really think we'd have these results if that 6 had been available for every game ? We've also been missing key fill in players like Nasri, Clichy, Delph, and Mangala at times, no squad can take that big a hit, and compete in three competitions.

Our league form is struggling because of that, we've been unable to rest those who have been available, and yet its helped cause too many disruptions, on top we appear to have prioritised the CL pre Christmas, so have tried to rest key players before those games. People go on about giving youth a chance, yet clearly the club (not just the manager) don't think they're ready yet, and they see them train every day, unlike fans, so its unrealistic to think we'd be better off playing youth imho.

I don't think so.

There's a difference thinking you have the divine right to beat a club smaller than yourselves oppose to being dejected in seeing such a shit performance being torn apart by a club who recently got out matched by Sunderland whilst your manager sits down and just watches the atrocity unfold before his eyes!

Nutshell.
