Are we now the 2nd biggest club in England?

Well thanks for your contribution. It was asked how we are smaller than Newcastle and I questioned needing decades of success to be considered truly big as Chelsea managed without such. As for needing a pm, it took no time at all for you to reply when I mentioned you.

It took me no time at all because I happened to be on this thread at the same page where I was mentioned. This really isn't rocket science. I have shit to do, I don't read every page of every thread. I don't even read every thread. If you caught me replying it's probably by chance rather than planned intent.

Newcastle are a huge club. They have an international fanbase, they consistently fill their ground, they have a following all over the country and have done for decades.

I presume you forgotten those leagues that Chelsea were challenging for, and those trophies that they won before Ambramovich then? Or how they brought in players like Desailly, Di Matteo and Zola who were refined and popular players across the world?
Chelsea have been in the spotlight for decades and thus built up a following because of it.

Either way, at the end of the day you are calling out somebody on an internet forum because they happened to have missed your post, which you somehow believe is so important that it must be answered immediately or they are purposely ducking you. You need a reality check mate.

Do you really think Newcastle have a bigger international fanbase than City in 2011 though? Obviously social media figures etc are fallible, but there wouldn't be such a vast disparity between those figures and reality, if they did.

Not that I particularly care, but I would rate us as a bigger club than the likes of Newcastle, Villa, Everton. The fact that we are fighting for trophies straight away makes us more relevant than the others, able to attract better players and by far being the more marketable and newsworthy club.

Go back a few years and things were different, but in the long run I don't really care if we're considered "bigger" than other clubs.

Maybe 26% of non-league fans actually think they can beat us, especially knowing that we will be fielding a greatly weakened team in order to concentrate on other priorities. Also, I think its fair to say that we are now the second most hated team in the league. Statistics can be interpreted in many ways.

Anyone notice Damocles run off after making strange claims as to how small we are, and didn't back them up when questioned?

I didn't even know that they'd been questioned?!

Also, there's a difference between saying that we aren't the biggest club in England and "saying how small we are". This is the second time in recent days that I've pulled you up on putting words in my mouth, yet you still seem to want to do it.

Also also, how do you "run off" on a forum? There's a PM button up there if anybody wants to contact me directly as I don't have time to read every thread.

Stupid shit.

Newcastle have failed to sell out at home in 2 years. Have had no success to speak of, have lower social media fans and I cannot see any way that you can quantify them having a larger international following.

As for Chelsea having decades of success, don't make me laugh. They never challenged for the title before the money came in. They won a couple of cups in the previous 20 years. I may have forgotten about them challenging for the title year on year as it only happened in you head:

Would have been easier to just say you were probably wrong.

Indeed, they went 27 years without winning a major honour similar to our own 35 year wait , & whilst they had some good finishes in the late 90's & early 2000's pre-Abramovich, it's no different to our good league finishes in the 70's and early 90's.

We've always had a much bigger fan base than Chelsea until recent season's as well. Not to mention until 1997 Chelsea had only won 5 major honours to our 12.

Newcastle is a fairer comparison though, similar amount of trophies won and fan-bases.

I think most of it has to do with stadium size, wouldnt call us the second biggest club in England based on this.

I agree. Chelsea are bigger than us at this point, but a couple of Premiership wins and we would be right up there. You don't need decades of success as Chelsea have proven.

Regarding Newcastle, it is a fairer comparison but I would still say we are bigger in every quantifiable aspect and are certainly a bigger box office draw outside our respective city's.
