winding down in life.
i'm worried about our targets/ non signings, we have a fantastic chance to finish in the top 4 yet i feel we are'nt really "going for it".
of course its early days but i just feel uneasy, we know our weaknesses, we can buy the best in every department yet it seems all so quiet, if not quiet our targets are scary.

i dont know about anyone else but i was really looking forward to this window, it just seems to be passing us by, we can't let this chance go, it would be just criminal.

thoughts?

All depends, young man, on whether or not the selling club wants to sell. The Jan window is often a make-do and mend show where the 'best' are unavailable. I agree we need a bit of cover for injuries and susps but I can't see any top drawer, international, world class mid, striker, sweeper appearing this month. Hope I'm wrong, and we get Villa for the second leg! And Torres!

There's also the notion of Mancini running a 6-month business plan so I wouldn't expect him to be buying big. Vieira, good player that he is, won't be the same as he was for The Arse in playing terms but he can bring the right kind of mentality to the pitch, dressing room and training ground.

I have always thought that the majority of signings in the jan transfer window happen within the last week so i am just sitting back and waiting for deadline day, saying that if deadline day comes and we dont seem to have significantly attempted to cement a place in the top 4 by way of transfers, then and only then will i raise questions about the owners intentions.
On top of that i dont think that machini has that much to spend in this window hence getting viera on loan.

if we can get the argie left back in, then this is all that i think the squad actually needs to put a challenge in to the top 4 cartel. this is the only truly weak position we have.

the rest of it is getting the tactics right, and getting the players' mental state right. it will become clear in the next 4-6 weeks if mancini can achieve this.

Personally I think the signing of Vieira will be the one which secures top 3, not just top 4. His winning mentality, and the many, many tshirts he has from 'been there, done that' with the 3 massive clubs he's played for will push the youngsters and inexperienced in our team onto that top 3 spot, I am 100% confident that will happen. I was a massive Hughes inner, but I have nothing negative at all to say about Mancini and I admitted a long time ago that the change was for the best. The club appears to have moved onto the next level, something I believe is proven by the negative press we get, as that is only bourne out of the journo's shitting themselves that we are going to prove them all wrong. In a way I hope we don't blow £25m on one player who may take time to adjust and upset the applecart. I think cover signings like this Kjaer and Ansaldi deal will be good, but the Vieira one whets my appetite as I can see it being THEE signing of the season. I still have a candle burning for a title push too.

January is always a difficult month to purchase players in. I think we all learnt that lesson with the whole Kaka affair. I think we will sign a couple more players but i dont think they will be the household names that people are wanting.

You only have to look at some of Mancini's signings at Inter.

Maicon - £3.5 Monaco
Julio Cesaer - Free
Balotelli - U/K (Couldn't find the fee, but was bought as a 15yr old from a Serie C1 club)

I like what Mancio does, he looks for a player and moulds that player into what he is looking for, improving their game and usually not paying over the odds. It has to be said those 3 transfers i have highlighted have either gone on, or should go on to become world class players.

The Viera signing has given the press a little bit of ammunition over his age, not played regularly for Mourinho etc. My opinion is Mancini knows what he is getting with Paddy and will be Mancio's voice in the dressing room. Mancini isn't stupid, he knows that he needs someone who is going to fight his corner and get players onside and who better than someone he has previously worked with but also comes with an abundance of medals whether they are, PL titles, Fa Cups, Scudetto's or a world cup winners medal.

Im warming to this, and im looking forward to what other shrewd signings are heading our way.

I don't mind if we don't get any marquee signing like Maicon, because honestly, inter are at the top of seria a and are in the champions league round of 16 and he won't want to come to city when we are not gauranteed 4th spot. I'd preffer players like Cristian Ansaldi, who is a good squad player and a left back and has a good chance of joining us. Maybe him, tevez and zabaleta can convince Aguero to come here :)

To finish top 4 we only need a right winger and perhaps a cb or lb. There is no point paying well over the odds now when we have a squad that can meet our target. The previous manager set a bad example trying to buy his way out of trouble at every opportunity. I hope we have a more measured approach with our new manager.

Once we have secured our top 4 finish and Don Roberto has had time to asses the squad over a number of games then I think he will address the weak areas. As we have already seen, even with a hugely depleted squad he has already shown that we can be successful thanks to tactics, organisation and concentration.

realistically, how many top players are available or would be willing to move to city mid-season. not many, if any at all.

I think we all need to be realistic and accept that we spent what we spent in summer with the intention being that it would be the squad for the season and should be enough to get into the top 4, which at moment we are on track for. Lets not start taking everything for granted and think that its our right to have millions and millions spent on the team every transfer window, our squad as it is should be good enough, and IMO, the team can only get better the more time they have playing together.
