hughes squandered 24 mil on lescott, 12 on toure and they were gash... mancini hasnt spent a penny yet,, and youre worried??

if toure and lescott are both "gash" then so we should be.
ve

I still think Lescott will prove a good but expensive buy, Toure on the other hand has been mostly dire.

Wheelsy, de Niro and Didsbury Dave are all responsible, well connected posters, not Hughes diehards either as far as I know.
If they have formed the view that Roberto is a willing stop-gap, happy to sign up to sky-high targets (and without the full and extensive backing he needs to achieve them) I for one would like to know how they came to their understanding of his allegedly precarious position.

Our manager is an experienced & highly regarded professional, it would be unusual to say the least if he agreed to such a shabby short-term deal.

Don't spare our feelings chaps, please justify your collective scepticsm.
My view that Mancini is a stop gap is based on info passed on prior to Hughes' sacking (December 17). And that's as far as I'll go with that.

I heard/ read it was an 18month contract with a 2 way 6 month get out clause.

I think the point is that we're fast reaching the stage where we don't NEED to sign anybody in the January window. The top players just don't tend to move clubs in this window, and if you're not a top player you're not going to strengthen this squad (with the possible exception of a quality left back as cover/competition for Bridge). This summer could be an entirely different kettle of fish however, especially if we manage to get a Champions League spot.
think this may be the spot on

Didn't we sign Craig Bellamy, Shay Given and Nigel De Jong in the last January window ? There top players aren't they.

Yes we are wasting this window.

Just over a week to go and we have signed one player. We are struggling with injury and need some serious rethinks in the terms of full backs and centre backs and possibly another striker to get us through. We could potentially be blowing our chance of top four. The dippers will be on our arse now and we need to keep them at arms length.

We aren't wasting this window. IMO, it's a waste to buy anyone in this window. No-one of real quality is ever available....certainly no-one that will offer anything long term. The best bet is to secure short term loan deals like we have with Vieira.
Our owners might be rich, but they didn't get that way by making stupid purchases just for the sake of it.

Bellamy was a questionable gamble at the time...
We overpaid for De Jong. Yes he may be worth the money now but that's not always going to be the case.
Shay Given was a great player at a poor club so was easily obtainable. Plus he was an improvement on what we had. How many players playing for clubs in the bottom half of the table now would be an improvement for us ?

I don't know if Mancini is a stop gap so that's why he's not getting any money. What I do know is that constantly buying players is not going to make us a good team. We have spent more than enough and its up to the training staff to coach the players. To be fair to Hughes and Mancini injuries haven't helped us but with players coming back we should have enough.

Haven't read all the posts but the title is interesting...

Didn't the chairman / chief exec / former manager say we wouldn't see a repeat of previous windows ? I took this to mean the high spending was over and we'd have to reign in. The club probably don't want to be the victim of extortionate transfer fees, agents fees, astronomical wages etc...

Free transfers, maybe, but mega deals - don't think there's any on the cards.

I think we may see a couple come in last minute. But no significant signings until the summer.
