Argentina - new president

Argentina withdrew its negotiators from the COP29 climate meeting in Baku last November, days after Trump won the US presidency. It has since followed Trump's lead in signalling it will withdraw from the Paris Agreement of 2015 - which underpins global efforts to combat climate change.

"We now expect our oil and gas production to go up," Enrique Viale, president of the Argentine Association of Environmental Lawyers, told the BBC.

"President Milei has hinted that he intends to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and has said environmentalism is part of the woke agenda."

Wait till he starts saber rattling about the Falklands.

errr - Don't wanna worry you but after the chainsaw stunt Pres Musk tweeted " The Malvina's are Argentine soil" or something to that effect. Given the well publicised state of our armed forces you can bet that the minute Milei's Presidency hits choppy waters he will ride the nationalist wave all the way to Port Stanley - little we could do about it and forget our special friends the USA helping us out - they didn't help Thatcher and we were best buddies back then - if Milei tells Trump there is oil and minerals there Trump will send him help!!

The big difference to 82 though is we are already there with embedded defence.

Having served down there, the Argies would lose hell of a lot of troops before they got anywhere near pal.

the Army now has fewer than half the personnel it had in 1982 ...... would we have 30k soldiers spare to deploy? How would we get them there? The RAF is in a similar state and the Royal Navy barely exists. Do you know the Army has about 4 times as many horses as it does main battle tanks today thanks to 14 years of austerity?

All those points would be stressed to a struggling population by a clown like Milei if it looked like things were not working out for him. And as we see in Russia a R/W populist dictator will lay down as many of his countries young mens lives if it serves his purpose.

Well firstly the manpower they have in the Falklands would put up a lot more of a resistance and I think our subs would sink mostof their fleet before it got there, remember we control the runway this time so they’d have to fly like they did in 82 too and from the mainland. We would send forces in back up and resupply, it Wouk’s be very costly for Argentina to even contemplate it.
