Argentina v Slovenia

The Falklands War pre-dates the oil discovery. Rather ridiculous that islands of the coast of South America can be regarded as British

As for politics, the whole thing is a flag-waving contest between nation-states, how can it be anything but.[/quote]

Dont expect a rational answer, The governments of both sides were prepared to sacrifice lives to cling to power. Neither wanted a diplomatic solution, to the extent that official letters were hidden to preclude any chance of a peaceful outcome

I can't see a player on there that plays in England for an English club.

Politics and football ehh...who's of thunk it?

Argentina players displayed a banner before the kick off protesting about the Falklands Islands. This must have been extremely awkward for the City players, subsequently non started. Noticeably Zabaleta was not even in the squad maybe due to him being an adopted mancunion.

I would have thought FIFA might have something to say about that as they take a dim view of political posturing being brought into a game. Can't understand the fuss really. They gave the islands away a couple of hundred years ago and now theres a possibility of oil they want them back. Go figure.

What's ridiculous about it? The majority of the population want to remain British, there is not even an argument to be had if the population wants to be governed by Argentina, then they will be. True the population is mostly of British decent, the same could be said of Argentina, I am sure most of the indigenous peoples of that country would long for their lands back after they were stolen by waves of European settlers

If the picture was from Slovenia then my comment wasn't relevant. As indicated in the first post the first four pages of the thread were for Argentina v T&T (I switched it over to save space since their matches didn't seem to draw that much interest). Demichelis did start against them.

Details, details.

Argentina v Slovenia (to save the confusion)

would have been more of a statement if the British based players were behind it ...... cant we just give them one of our other islands to appease them .. like Guernsey ... or Australia or something ..... lol

If the commonwealth worked that way we'd have given the US Canada for Texas long ago.

Seven flags. ;-)

Didn't go well for them last time the US made a pitch for Canada...
