Arise Sir Sol Campbell (P14)

Why should footballers be given honours for winning trophies?

Weird response from a weird bloke.

Also an entitled slum landlord. Maybe the plonker deserves one afterall.

Gary Mabbutt's got an MBE for 'services to football' and he got it in 1994 while he was still playing. So if that's the bar, I'd say Sol is hard done by.

It looks like you can't get above an OBE for 'services to football' without either winning the World Cup, being a legendary manager, or being a chairman. Any players with a CBE are almost always charity-related plus services to football.

Looking at some of the people with an MBE or OBE who got it just for football, and I'd say Sol Campbell wouldn't be out of place among them. Robbie Earle? Jonny Evans? Barry Ferguson? Steven Gerrard? Harry Kane? Gary McAllister? Stuart Pearce? David Seaman? But then so would a million other players, so I'm not sure how they decide it.
Difference with Mabbutt is that all throughout his career he raised awareness for adults and children up and down the country of diabetes, and raised millions of pounds. He appeared on kids TV shows and radio and wrote many columns in his playing days. He also is the vice president of Diabetes UK. He was an inspiration for people that suffered from the disease. Probably one of the nicest guys ever to play the game and a well spoken individual.

While Mabbutt spent all his career raising awareness and money Campbell was trying to sue Pompey when they went bankrupt for image rights money owed. Since then he's complained about paying mansion tax, blamed his lack of captaincy for England for being black. Also mentioned he should work for Man City to help Stone's be a better defender back in the day lol. He's a dick head of the highest order.

Well yeah.

I'm sure he's a top bloke, but Mabbutt wasn't given his MBE for any of that, he was given it for 'services to football.' And they do usually mention if it's about their charity work even if it's 'services to charity and football.'

Jermain Defoe has and OBE for 'services to the Jermain Defoe foundation' which I found quite funny. I'm sure it's a good cause, but it just sounds like he's raising money for an extension on his house.

Average defender. Why the fuck does he deserve anything
Entitled fucking fanny wipe. Oh I know
Starmer being a gooner will no doubt have those paragons of virtue in the honours list. Campbell,Adams , Merson and Parlour for keeping the drinks industry propped up for years
