Sorry to hijack but didnt want to start a new thread.

Got my RAF Pre recruit training coming up in 2 and a bit weeks.

Shitting my pants. Any advice?

cheers

It's just an introduction to give you an idea of what to expect when you get to Halton. There'll be nothing expected of you so don't worry about it. Just go & listen to what they've got to say.
I suppose the only think I can fail now is on the bleep test which ive got to get 9.10 and I should do easily

If you join up (any of the Services) you need to be prepared to fly, simple as that. The RAF does courses to help those who have a fear of flying and they really do work!

I have to say that I've done just over 22 years now & I've never regretted joining up (though getting mortared was a tad hairy). :-)

if they work illl have a look into it. thanks mate :)

edit: i forgot to add ide like to think of my self as a rather good photographer and ide love to take that path with the army. :)

You can do that in any of the three Services. Think you do your trade training at RAF Cosford near Wolverhampton at the Defence School of Photography (DSOP).

Hello,

I know there is several current and ex-forces on here, so cheers in advance for reading and any advice you can offer.

I've been pondering for a while now what to do post uni (finishing in around 4 months), and i've started thinking I could join the the armed forces.

I'm a pretty fit lad (sunday league, gym etc), and quite outgoing (although don't fancy heights much).

Does anybody have any suggestions on which force would I should look at (Navy, Army, RAF)?

Anybody else do a degree then join the forces?

Just any other real info would be great.

Thanks once again blues.

Alternatively you could pass up the chance of a really rewarding career, end up in a shitty office job, and lose your life by getting run over by the number 76 bus.

Well yeah..! but the bus would be an accident.. not a choice, and there's plenty of rewarding careers.... it depends what you see as "rewarding"..

Personally... I wouldn't find being a part of something that does this sort of thing rewarding... but obv thats just me.

But hey..! Blair is sorry for the needless loss of life on both sides... so its ok.
http://news.in.msn.com/international/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4829124

"Blair expressed his sorrow before the Chilcot Inquiry probing the then British government's decision to support the 2003 invasion aimed at toppling Saddam Hussein, the then president of Iraq.

Relatives of those killed in the conflict shouted out "It's too late", as an emotional Blair told of his sorrow at the bloodshed, while two female witnesses walked out and another turned her face away, During the hearing, Blair admitted that he ignored legal advice that invading Iraq without a fresh UN resolution would not be legitimate.
He also said that he would have been prepared to withhold British troops from taking part in the invasion had Lord Goldsmith not changed his mind about the legality or if the House of Commons had voted against the move."

I'm sure there is. What sort of thing are you looking to do? What was your degree?

Done a psychology degree at MMU.

Would the type of degree I have impact on life?
How did you like MMU? I've been offered a place there but i'm undecided, seeing city each week is probably a good enough reason to go tbf

Join as an officer if you can. That way if you join the RN you get your own steward to serve you dinner, fluff your pillow and fold your jim jams for you ;-)
