Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't mind getting beat but that collapse was pathetic. At 3-1 we never looked like scoring another.

I cannot understand why we try to play games at a pedestrian pace when the opposition aren't up for it. Arsenal were up for it today and we were slow and sloppy

I just think the opposition teams have figured out how we play and how to beat us. It's painfully clear that our defence is shite and any team with pace will cause us problems. Given that, why play so far up the pitch? It's criminal at times how open we are and prone to the quick ball forward. There's no point in continuing to play these tactics as they don't work with this group of players. It needs to change.

If we try to play Grandad speed against Real it could be a collapse like no other.

Absolutely took to the fucking cleaners today and if wasn’t even a shock . Spurs Liverpool and Madrid will do the same aswell .

Did anyone think we would win or get a result today?

I didn't.

We're at that level now.

But 5-1! Wow!

We have been over taken by Arsenal and Liverpool. Face facts.

Move on.
I fancied us even when we went 1 down. We levelled and had the momentum at that point. I felt we could have gone on to win. The pressure was all on Arsenal.........but hey ho, Fodens pass and it's all over after that. very frustrating. It was not a 5-1 game.

Yep, the only hope is that Reuben is fit. With him in the team we can possibly keep the score respectable. If it's Stones and Akanji again flanked by Nunes and Gvardiol we're going to get a right fucking

The thing isn't about quality we know how much quality each player has as we've been watching them in this system the last 4 seasons and it's been brilliant.

The current crop do not have the legs to play his way. We can all see that surely. Some don't even have the technical ability to play his way.

So let's dial it back. Try not to be smart with anything. Shore up our leaky defence and when teams lose it in our half we go at them with directness and pace. With haaland up top and being fed that ball over the top, in behind we will score. My tactic has less emphasis on the control possession, more play to the players strengths we currently have. If in the summer we break the bank for some highly technical players in the ilk of musiala, wirtz, or whoever then we go back to his ways.

But it's clear that the current system isn't fit for the squad of players we currently have. Nunes has had the season of bedding in, and he's no further forward and is being played at right back now. Trying to do a Delph on him. But frankly it's not working. Lewis, may come across as a tidy footballer, but apart from that what does he bring. He dosent whip a cross in at pace, isn't strong defensively. He's only playing because he can move inside and fit his system. Apart from that offers very little. Which is a shame as I wanted him to do well.

We've seen from the dippers and the arse they've given their youth players a chance and they've grabbed their chance by the bollocks. Why haven't we done the same with mcatee, o'reilly, etc in our current situation they can't do any worse can they..

It is the players to a certain extent but it's the tactics that is our downfall..

Teams have caught up and overtook us ..

It's so obvious..

It's easy to play against us.
Very true , Pep stole a march on this type of system , wether we like it or not , teams even like Bournemouth et all , and countless other teams , have firmly worked out how to counteract us , yes , we have dominated for 7/8 seasons and been extremely successful, but no system lasts forever , and let’s be honest here - we have had the worlds best players to make all of this work , but those players have shot their bolts now , and this league will just never see the likes of Kev, Yaya, Bernardo ,Silva, Aguero Walker , Stones etc , ever play in the same side again, a complete absolute world beating team , with a world beating manager at the helm. Yes , we have Foden and Haaland , but who now steps up to compete with that lot in one team ? Kompany , the list goes on, we’ve seen the best ever , a team and squad that has smashed every record in football. Cycles come to an end , it’s how we progress from this that’s most important. Pep’s time is nearly done , something fundamentally isn’t the same , Txiki is on his bike , and Pep just won’t ever be the same when he leaves . He’s got one more season if that , wouldn’t surprise me at all if he leaves end of the season.

If we played 10 yards deeper it will stop the long ball over the top shite. Give Vinicius that space and Nunes at RB and it's nightmare stuff. I'm not sure even Dias could help us if our defence are too high!!

It's not one to look forward though. We will massively miss Walker for this.

It’s painful to lose so comprehensively there, though I’m comforted a bit by the fact that, once they’ve got the giddiness out of their system and lose at Newcastle in the week, the realisation will dawn on them that that win has exactly as much impact on their season as the defeat had on ours.

Individual player mistakes sit with them, but a repeating pattern of mistakes sits with the Manager. The senior players also need to look hard in the mirror - someone needs to find a spine and some composure from somewhere. It can’t all sit with Rodri and Dias.
