Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

at least someone with some balls has called it, expect a battering on here for that but sadly its the truth, he's done us proud but the long term fail from Pep is going back to the Kompany years and not replacing players as they aged, this has carried on up to date, that IMO is bad management
To be fair to Pep I can imagine his head is battered going through a divorce after 30 years of marriage, that doesn’t help us though but it must be effecting him a lot.

In control most of the first half and deservedly equalised but what the fuck happened then? Individual errors are killing us and the players are then hiding. Top three now pretty much nailed on, our priority is to secure fourth place and reset, last 15 years have been amazing and there has never been another team like it. But football is cyclical and maybe it’s someone else’s turn. It won’t be Arse though, they have regressed and are the most boring, cynical side on the PL. if retrospective bans were handed out for cheating, not sure they could field a team. Move on and look forward.

I accept defeat but not this lack of effort.

Time for the leadership to stand up. The players who underperform can sit in the stands.

As city fans we are not arrogant, we understand it takes time to rebuild.

I will not under any circumstance accept a team that lacks effort and fight.

We get beaten by the better team then fair do’s. This is not that.

This team and set of players are all too nice, lightweight and have no real fight. All smiles when going their way but passive if not.

Just posted in thd pep thread, Thierry Henry said he feels sorry for pep for one reason.

He believes peps personal life is causing him problems mentally.
I'm sure it is. Anyone going through a divorce will be torn apart mentally. He's doing it whilst living in a goldfish bowl. The club would have sat down with him and supported him and offered him all the proffessional support he needs to help deal with it. He may still be having that support, we don't know. What we do know is clearly something is wrong. Maybe he needs time away from football, an interim manager until he is ready to come back. Maybe he will continue and it will play out and unfold or maybe he will walk away.

I really don’t care because it is 100% clear that there is an issue with the way we play, tactics, formation, speed etc. possession of the ball for 80 minutes means fuck all if you don’t shoot or I’f you can’t defend - it’s on the players yes but also the manager and ultimately many city fans whilst not openly admit it must be thinking about what exactly Guardiola is doing to stop this downward spiral - personally I have seen fuck all change
Totally agree. I think other coaches have passed him by now. Our style is a busted flush and all season pep hasnt even tried to be different

We got humped that happens but what I think most managers would do is to reset the team to make it difficult to beat and use haarland in a more direct role - it’s the lack of change I think many many city fans are becoming frustrated about
He’s an arrogant fucker who will never be pragmatic. We ain’t shitty City from the 80s and 90s anymore, I don’t ever recall us getting battered so often in one season under Mancini or Pellegrini or even in Hughes short tenure. This is back to the bad old days.

Rarely seen a more incompetent display by a professional GK, Ortega has fallen off a cliff. I think we can all agree we need a new GK next year. Kovacic, I found him a really baffling player, always gives his all and brave in tackles, but he appears to be wearing blinkers, his situational awareness is absolutely rank, he just doesn't seen to be aware of what is going on around him when under pressure. Expected a defeat today tbh, but self inflected, unforced errors are killing us.
My own, out of 10 ratings, just to try to fathom it out and find some positives...

Ortega 2
Nunes 5
Stones 6
Akanji 4
Gvardiol 6
Kovacic 3
Foden 4
Bernardo 6
Marmoush 5
Savinho 6
Haaland 5
LeonardoDaVnci -10

We h e looked much better of late with Eddy also it opens up to being able to bring the ball out of defence better and the players have confidence to play it back to him then there’s his long ball passing, numerous times today Ortega gave them the ball back
He may well have but none led to a goal. The players were the issue today not Ortega. Bar the 3rd where you might and I mean might say weak wrist which went in off the post the rest were pretty good goals unfortunately. I get the playing out thing and Eddy may have selected a different pass but that’s just fantasy stuff that we’ll never know.

I saw and posted similar. Obviously a lot going on. He should be allowed some ' compassionate' leave and let Lilo take over for a few months. Hard to work, concentrate and make reasoned decisions when your personal life is traumatic. No judgement on anyone here, it is what it is. But it's clearly affecting the team.

A very long hard look. But leadership comes from the top. It is sadly lacking presently. Personally I think Pep is becoming a very large part of the problem. Maybe it is time for a new face in the dugout?
Nah, Pep is the GOAT. He's making mistakes for sure and is probably being too loyal to certain players that have served him well, but he'll sort this with the right players.

The issue is piss poor recruitment the last 2 seasons since winning the treble. Our midfield is an absolute state. It was so easy for Arsenal to bypass our midfield today. Kovacic doesn't have positional awareness at all and Bernardo has played well once in the last 4 or 5 months. KDB is not the player he was and has to be dipped in and out of the team to maximise his ability. Sadly he's done I think. Gundo is done, Nunes is not good enough. Rodri is the only top tier midfielder we have in the squad, so this has to be the priority for us to fix.

The defence is also full of errors. Ake, Dias, Gvardiol and Stones are quality but 2 of them are injury prone. The rest are error prone or young players with potential. We absolutely have to sign 2 full backs in the summer and make us harder to play against down the sides. The club have got a big job on this summer to identify the right players to turn this around.

Now I don’t think we’ll do much in the CL, however, it is a cup comp that is often won by a side out of sorts domestically.

The top 5 thing is stupid.. Villa were beaten by a relegation candidate and Newcastle got beat (again) by bloody Fulham at home! And Chelsea are a mixed bag. So competition is not that fierce thank god!
Aren't defeats to Spurs, United, Villa, Bournemouth and Brighton with draws against Everton, Palace and Brentford not similar?
Can you honestly say looking at this table we will comfortably finish 5th?
