Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

“The Wrath of Pep” Good title for a book about this period.
Despite this, there was footage of him on the sideline frustrated at the players not doing what he wanted yet he did nothing, in past seasons he would subbed them off immediately

This team, manager and these players have given more joy than I ever thought a City side ever could. The fall off this season has been faster than expected but im not going to start slating them.

The club need us pulling together rather than making scapegoats.

Some posters could do with taking an hour or so to chill out before putting their frustrations on here.

Pep is finished , sad to say it but his time has come.
He has to decide on what the next iteration is, because this one has run its course.

Clearly, it’s simple math that having more possession restricts the opposition. However, if, when they do get possession, they eviscerate you, then you need to think second and third derivative. We have Plan A. The end. THAT has to change.

He has at least 2 seasons now to rebuild this team and rethink what Football 2025 is, because Football 2018-2024 is well and truly OVER!

He is no where near the best at the minute. Yes he has unlimited credit. But we've seen it with other great managers over the years.

Mourinho defensive tactics got found out
Fergy dinosaur tactics were found out

Pep needs to re invent the wheel so to speak.

Even some of the new younger managers have refreshing ideas.
PL now is pace, strength and power. Our slow, side and back passing and possession has won us so much but now is ineffective esp with the personel we have. Every team now seems to have a good engine room and pacy wingers that kills our technical but slow and weak players when we lose the ball

It wont carry into next season he will have plans to move a different way it amazes me that one manager who has done it all aint allowed the one off season .............i bet you go back through the history of the game and every great manager who ever lived had the odd off season ...........still no doubt the media will go after him they will lord over Arteta and guess what come the end of the season Arteta will have failed yet again and that in a nutshell is the issue with the media in this country

All managers are allowed bad seasons Guardiola included but it’s not just about players, his job is to mange the team through difficult times. Personally I don’t believe that new players will make that much difference unless we are better organised defensively, play with greater tempo and dare I say it a little more direct

My issue with Guardiola is his refusal to change the team to suit the players ability or current form.

We can’t defend that is clear not changing the team to make us harder to beat is Guardiolas job

We have Haarland a 9 year contract and he bare;y touches the ball

Pep is right. Be more like Pep and calm tf down man.

Pep Guardiola: "I only regret the last 20, 25 minutes. We forgot to do what we should do, what we've done for 60, 65, 70 minutes. It's a difficult game starting like that in this stadium, against that team in the first minutes and it's happened many times this season.

"But after 10, 15 minutes we took the game, played really, really, really good. At 1-1, good momentum, with the passes to make transitions with Omar [Marmoush], and then deflection, third goal...

"After we didn't continue what we have to do in terms of defensively and being a little patient. When you play that way they can run and at 3-1 they're more comfortable and it's more difficult. I regret the last 15, 20 minutes. The rest? A really good game from our side. It's difficult when you see the result, but this is my feeling..."
Unfortunately Pep the game is played over 90 minutes.

good thing they also missed their best player in Saka. unfortunately they dont need to use that as excuse for losing.

Ake, Ederson, Doku and Stones can barely manage two consecutive games…..Dias seems to be about to join the above club, but even if they were available on a more regular basis they would not bridge the gap in quality between ourselves and Liverpool and Arsenal.

David Silva and Aguero bucked the trend (and Bernardo of 2 years ago) but what is really costing us now is the physicality especially in Midfield.

Today we had Kovacic and Bernardo ( I thought they both did ok until Arsenals second) against Rice and Partey……they were both done after about 60 minutes as has been demonstrated in many games this season.

We need a better Summer than 2017 when we signed Ederson, Walker, Danilo and Mendy (although that signing didn’t work out) because without doubt we are starting from a lower base.

The drop off from last year is unbelievable and maybe very unexpected, however the warning signs were there last season even though we won the league.

Next year will be even more demanding, especially with the World Club championship.
