Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Yet we are spending circa £150-170m on 3/4 players ?
Why not go taters deep on two top drawer ones ? Same outlay but less combined wages ?
All it bit piss poor tbh , this new kid in defence has flop written all over it , a bit premature maybe , but he’s got Mangala written all over him in my book , we should have gone for Branthwaite from Everton for me.

Agree, or Marc Guehi.

It’s hard for defenders to settle in to a struggling side, even more so if they speak no English nor have any PL experience. Signings we actually didn’t need to make at this point in time. We needed players to come in and improve us straight away.

Can’t judge Khus on a few bad mins. Akanji didn’t help either. Look what he’s at today.

Maybe we have no wiggle room regarding wages? Maybe big players won’t come because of 115?

I genuinely don’t know what’s going on? Something doesn't add up. A lot of unknowns.
Whats happened to Reis as well??

I agree with this. I honestly don't believe it is lack of effort from the players.
It’s very simple to see…. This season we have started to defend too narrow, just the width of our box. This leaves us with one or two problems. 1) Their wide players always have plenty of space and time to get crosses in as we are ‘stood off’. 2) There is too much space behind the full backs for attackers to expose. Point 2 is happening too often, a result of our full backs being caught up field. Add this to our slow, possession based attack and what we are seeing is a worrying trend.

None of our midfielders/defenders win any duels or individual battles. They don’t even cut it passes/block shots. We are one of the easiest teams to play against and that should be eating them up.

You never saw it coming ? We got dry bummed off Spurs and Bournemouth, and Feyenoord would have dumped us out of the CL given another ten more minutes play , 2 nil up against Brentford, the list is endless. This has been 100% coming since the 7th/8th game of the season, this team is finished.
When we equalised we were seemingly in the game. I would never, at that point predict a 5-1 defeat. I meant in the context of this game not the season which is going from bad to worse. After Chelsea I was a little more hopeful. I should have perhaps put a little more context around my comments

This is spot on. I can’t see why we are playing so narrow up front and in defence. We have had our best success when we stretch teams and use the full width of the pitch like in 2018. Savinho and Doku are great wide players. We are easy to attack. We have not got the legs in the team for possession based football at present.

Just got home from game in time to endure MOTD to see the horror show again, strange old day.

Said numerous times recently I was happy to be quoted that we will get some twattings from this run of games, well there’s the first of them.
So glad further to go means I have just landed and don’t have to go through it again on MoD. Although I’m genuinely though my from 10-60 mins we were the better team. Ie either side of the defensive fuck ups

Very true , Pep stole a march on this type of system , wether we like it or not , teams even like Bournemouth et all , and countless other teams , have firmly worked out how to counteract us , yes , we have dominated for 7/8 seasons and been extremely successful, but no system lasts forever , and let’s be honest here - we have had the worlds best players to make all of this work , but those players have shot their bolts now , and this league will just never see the likes of Kev, Yaya, Bernardo ,Silva, Aguero Walker , Stones etc , ever play in the same side again, a complete absolute world beating team , with a world beating manager at the helm. Yes , we have Foden and Haaland , but who now steps up to compete with that lot in one team ? Kompany , the list goes on, we’ve seen the best ever , a team and squad that has smashed every record in football. Cycles come to an end , it’s how we progress from this that’s most important. Pep’s time is nearly done , something fundamentally isn’t the same , Txiki is on his bike , and Pep just won’t ever be the same when he leaves . He’s got one more season if that , wouldn’t surprise me at all if he leaves end of the season.
There was a time in MMA that strikers with great ( just defense) against grapplers was the way..

Chuck liddell was the master of this.
Master striker but had a great defence to get back up if he got taken down.
He never had any intention to grapple. Just get back up.

Then the wrestlers took over the strikers.. they evolved.

Smashing everybody.

Then we had a mix of fighters great at both ( St Pierre ect .)..

Then it evolved again to wrestlers dominating.. kabib ect ..

Now it's changed again to fucking amazing wrestlers who've learnt how to strike on the feet..

It moves on.

Peps philosophy has been left behind..

Can he evolve, I don't think he can , and it's nothing to do with not having the players.

Teams much lower down have done us over and done us over purely down to tactics and how they are being trained....
