Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't understand this wailing and gnashing of teeth, not to mention the anger and abuse directed at the players, Pep and the management.

It's not even a surprise this downturn is happening.

The only surprise is that this group of players have managed to achieve sustained success at this level for so long.
They have won 6 out of the last 7 Premiership titles, reached 2 Champions League finals, won 1 Champions League, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 3 Community Shields since 2016 with many records broken along the way, not to mention the doubles, treble and winning 4 League titles on the bounce.

Rags, Dippers, Tarquins, Yids, Chavs and fans of every club in the football pyramid would give their left bollock to see their teams achieve so much success.
Yet here are we, a bunch of entitled ingrates who couldn't have dreamt of so much success barely a decade and a half ago, calling out world class players, one of the best managers the world has ever seen and a fantastic management team who have given us so much success.

It's not rocket science, this player group has come to the end of it's natural life cycle, players have aged, they are exhausted physically and mentally and the team needs a rebuild which is well underway.
It was always bound to happen sooner or later.

The good times will return with the rebuild of the squad, our owners will insist on it and back it with the funds to make it happen as they so generously have in the past.
Untill that happens let's stay humble and grateful and back our manager and players who have given us so much success to celebrate over the years.
You're right - it's not rocket science; it was all very foreseeable, and that's the most annoying thing.

There was a time in MMA that strikers with great ( just defense) against grapplers was the way..

Chuck liddell was the master of this.
Master striker but had a great defence to get back up if he got taken down.
He never had any intention to grapple. Just get back up.

Then the wrestlers took over the strikers.. they evolved.

Smashing everybody.

Then we had a mix of fighters great at both ( St Pierre ect .)..

Then it evolved again to wrestlers dominating.. kabib ect ..

Now it's changed again to fucking amazing wrestlers who've learnt how to strike on the feet..

It moves on.

Peps philosophy has been left behind..

Can he evolve, I don't think he can , and it's nothing to do with not having the players.

Teams much lower down have done us over and done us over purely down to tactics and how they are being trained....
WTF are you on? This is football. Not MMA, Netball, Soccer, WWF, Transformers, Pokemon or Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles! Get yourself ready for bed kid - you've got school in the morning.

After a terrible start, thanks to shabolic errors from our defenders and keeper, I felt that we got back into the game and by half time we were on top. When Haaland equalised, I thought that we might go on to win. Sadly, those thoughts lasted for less than a minute.
Sixty minutes in and we totally capitulated. It seems to be something that our opponents have picked up on (Brentford/PSG). Is it lack of fitness, loss of concentration, old legs, I don’t know, but it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Sadly we ended up with a seriously embarrassing result. Just glad that I don’t take any notice of media reporting.

Always get the feeling when reading message boards like this that some people can't wait to jump in with comment's slagging the team off, can almost visualise them frothing at the mouth as they type their message.
So we got beat 5-1 which I thought flattered arsenal. Now we're garbage/rubbish/useless/embarrassing/
Many reasons for our current inconsistent form and I'm confident we'll be back on it next season.
We're still the current champions and even with our problems we're still 4th.
It could be a lot worse.

more than anything im sad that this era is so spectacularly over and i have a hunch Pep will not see out the rebuild either

no more amazing Kevin goals/passes, no more Bernardo pingers, Gundogan silky burst into the box, Walker running down whichever hot left winger was all the rage, a Riyahd Mahrez gravity defying touch, Eddy wrong footing some striker with a nonchalant Cruyff turn and probably no more John Stones being John Stones we knew.

Yet again like watching the lambs been sent to slaughter. Set up all wrong and a non existent midfield leaving the back 4 exposed. This type of result and performance is not an anomaly now though is it?

Make no mistake, pep is responsible for a large portion of this mess. Plenty here love to credit him for all the success and refuse to accept he’s responsible for when things go wrong.

Something has set in to these players which is up to him to sort. We are absolutely piss weak mentally given how much success we’ve had and I genuinely don’t think there’s another midfield in the league that’s easier to play through than ours.

Why hasn’t this clear issue been addressed tactically or by new personnel?

Who are you gonna blame now? Ilkay did not play. One of the most inept and useless performance by City against our former pigeons. They've improve but seriously how many times have we lost over 2 goals this season.

This is the team who knows that before the game even starts they are one nil down, or conceding one at least. And they cannot live with that.

Come on man. Are you suggesting that the league is playing this year EXACTLY like they were each of the past 3 seasons? He's trying to say that Pep needs to adapt. Our game has not changed. Now, I think possession is a good thing but when we lose the ball, we are a shambles running back. We have no pace. and if they're running at us at pace within 25 yards of goal, its panic stations. We have to figure this out. Injuries certainly haven't helped. But we lack the personnel to offer a body or direction to stop an attack.

we need to sit deeper, that’s all there is to it. Try and limit the amount of open space between our keeper and defenders and use the ball playing skills of the midfielders to play much quicker balls to our attacking players. We’ve seen in the past few weeks how well we get at teams when the game is more stretched. For me the original Pep formula has been well and truly sussed out and has had its day.

with that Khusanov error vs Chelsea in 5th minute and the Akanji error in 2nd minute vs Arsenal what are the chances something similar happens vs Real Madrid in first 5 mins to set the tone of the whole game/tie?

we are not switched on in first few mins why is that? then usually in any high tempo games our fitness completely gone by 65th min and we are chasing shadows.

The funny thing is, although it's not remotely funny of course, is in spite of seeing how the rags imploded after their title win in 2013, we have gone exactly down the same route and made the same mistakes.
We kept faith with an ageing burnt out side and didn't renew it. Now we are suffering in the same way. There is no guarantee we will get back to the top level anytime soon in spite of our panic buys the last couple of weeks. We rested on our laurels and let a great side get old together and replaced world class players with utter shite, as in Nunez and Phillips. End of an era and the great pretenders like Foden and Haaland have to do more, especially Phil. That might sound harsh but he is 25 now and should be dominating midfield but he's anonymous a lot of the time like yesterday. Haaland will always be the great enigma. His goalscoring records are up with the best but too often it's like playing with with ten men. He has to improve his all round game. I'm fed up of hearing we have to find a way to make better use of him, but that cuts both ways.
Lastly we have Pep. Absolutely one of the best coaches that has ever lived but has he too been left behind in the past now?
Interesting times and we'll find out in the next couple of years.

painful day however its not the end of the world , the team was way overdue for rebuild and we didnt do much about it since the champion league .And the team was over achieving in the last two season . the planning for the team was not great but am sure now the board realised how late they left it.I hope we finish in top four this season and start mega rebuild in the summer with superstar signing rather than makeshift signing . Taking responsibility for problems is more valuable than achieving success because it fosters learning.we have smart board and the best manager in the world and money is not an issue .we need to calm down and am sure it will be addressed in the summer .

To be honest am not mad or angry.
Because i always remember we have won premier league 4times in a row.
Won treble.
9 years of football dominance by pep.
Best football match i ever watched (Man city vs. Real madrid (4-0)
End of era, but we will rebuild and come back stronger.
I hope we get top 4 thats all, and liverpool win premier league.
