Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

And this is the problem, he will never change. He will buy the players he thinks will help his system and until then, He will use his old players that know his system, even if they are long past their best. He won’t adapt to their dwindling skill sets ever or use unproven younger players in his midfield. This season he has said on many occasions “I need my players back” what he means is, the players that know his football, mostly the old guard. However, they can’t apply it anymore. They are either spent, too old and slow for his high press/high line or they are injured. He’ll live and die by his football. he’s very very tunnel visioned.
I can’t believe I’m reading this. You obviously know better than everyone at the club & Pep. Maybe they are working on a rebuild knowing that a 5th PL was more than unlikely???

Was really pleased with our performance up to the point we equalised

We were controlling the game and had created a few decent chances , our press was also looking good at the start of the second half

We then fell apart, which has happened all too frequently in this horror run. The players look to lose belief in the method and our technical discipline goes out the window.

This isn’t a physical problem it’s a mental one, the players have lost confidence in the system and our way of playing. It’s not everyone but a significant proportion. Pep’s mantra is that you have to have the conviction to play with courage. You got to have the swagger we used to when playing out of the press. Where once we were sure, now we are hesitant. Where once the opposition wilted under our confidence now they draw from our lack of it.

We need to rebuild but people asking for wholesale changes are wide of the mark , we need the leaders in the team to carry the message to the next generation

Ederson, Dias , Rodri , Bernardo should be central to our team next year. These guys know what’s required and they’re all still you enough to offer a meaningful contribution

One or two full backs and a couple of centre mids and we’ll be back next year

There isn’t many times over the years I’d call this team lazy but that last 30 mins was a disgrace. Talk is cheap. They need to respond

A lot of them have clearly realised they're getting fucked off at the end of the season so they're out of the door mentally, hence why we're falling apart so easily at the first sign of pressure. See my earlier post about Pep explaining that they just did their own thing in the last thirty minutes and ignored the tactics, which is why we got slammed.

Our best 2 defenders are currently sidelined. Without Dias and Ake plus a RB who isn't, the whole thing is a recipe for disaster.

Gvardiol has morphed into a goal scoring/assisting machine wing back which is great but leaves a load of space behind him.

Then we've got Kovacic who is poor when facing his own keeper, a goalkeeper who is not Ederson with his feet.

It's early days with Marmoush, who is a very good player, but I have the feeling him and Savinho get in each others way.

Foden having an off day and Haaland being bullied and it's no wonder we lost heavily.

Arsenal once they got going were quicker, stronger and more integrated in their play.

Ederson needs to be shipped out and Bernardo the same, Ederson is NOT a great shot stopper full stop, great with the ball but no way is he a great goalkeeper, Bernardo Silva needs a complete recharge, both have been great servants but need to be replaced, Dias and Rodri are no brainers and are completely essential to our future.

The team show 9bviuos signs of being not physically knackered but mentally drained so that sharpness of thought , essential in this league is lacking - so stray passes , lumbering movements etc occur and why? Because those fellas have worked their socks off for the past few years with little rest due to premier league , Eufa and euros - you cannot expect them to perform at this level with a cascade of injuries caused by overwork and a small squad
We do need two full ‘teams’ at least to manage this but I’m sure this will be resolved
Get top 4, win the club World Cup ( another unnecessary distraction) and it’s a reasonable season - get new recruits and this bollocks about 115 out of the way and give it plenty next year - keep the faith
Quality does not disappear overnight ! They are still quality but knackered - think we all are!!,

This.......the team is mentally knackered hence the misplaced passes. How many of our English lads are in good form after the Euros and southgates coaching ? Walker ? No. Phil ? No. Stones ? No. Grealish? No.
Also physical knackered that's why so many keep getting muscle injuries.

I don't think we have much down time this season with the club world cup thingy.

Not sure when the lads will get a decent time of to just relax.

He’s never been a great shot stopper but is fundamental to the way we play

He was a key part of our success and will be going forward once we start to dominate games again

Bernardo just needs to be part of a well oiled machine and he’ll be fine. He was trying to do the work of two men yesterday put Rodri and an other next to him and he’ll be great. Could probably do with giving him the summer off though

Who are these players? Whilst I don't disagree with you many might have a few years left on their contracts.

Gundogan can easily go and maybe Grealish, who Pep seems to be freezing out, but they weren't playing yesterday.

Stones/Akanji? I imagine Nuñes has a few more years on his contract.

Ortega might choose to leave. As may McAtee.

Stones possibly, Nunez if anybody wants him, Akanji hopefully, Ortega is a possibility and perhaps Ederson who for a keeper is picking up a lot of mysterious injuries. Gundogan will probably leave, maybe KDB.Ake and possibly Doku as they are never fit. It obviously all depends on who we can recruit.

I can appreciate why you'd think that but the only reason we were in the game is because Arsenal showed us far too much respect. At 1-0 they retreated and allowed us to keep the ball. At 1-1 they then started to play again and didn't stop to the end of the game. We couldn't lay a glove on them once they did.

The team is shell shocked. No pace, no energy, no strategy, no composure. We're completely lost. No one is standing up and leading the team.

We just have to accept that this is our situation. It's not going to change. Pep isn't going to be more pragmatic or change our approach or try anything different because long term he wants us to play a certain way. He's bought himself that right having shown us what success his way will deliver.

It's far from ideal, but we can either pursue short term improvement or long term success.

Humbled.

Pathetic and just about as bad as it gets.

Something drastic needs to happen for this to stop.

Embarrassed with the effort and commitment.

Games like this would see managers walk or get sacked. It’s that bad.

Drop the players, play youth and the new guys. Some of the players are causing so our downfall it unreal to watch.

Very painful viewing and on the cards. We all knew that a hammering was on. Sure let’s play all the same players next week.

The executives at the club need to sort this out. The rot and negligence starts with them. Fuck this cfg building and took their eye off city.

Really disappointed tonight and I haven’t felt this way in a long time.

No fight, no heart, not good enough.
whatever pep is saying to the team, its not working, no legs ,no pace, dont look fit, like nunez, but why does pep think he can play full back.

I probably agree with you but my expectations on how we were playing was in the context of the previous four months

We can play well in periods but our confidence is so low we can’t maintain it when we take a knock

I’m 100% backing Pep to get us back playing , luckily because of his success this buys him the time he needs

I’ve been saying for weeks that this season is a write off , get him the players he needs and we’ll be back next sesson

And Arsenal better remember that he who laughs last , laughs longest

Yeah I’ve never seen this city team under Pep collapse like this. Even his first season we had some bad losses sure but this is a consistent basis now of similar things.
