Arsenal (A) - Post-Match Thread

The application of VAR still isn't perfect but has definitely improved this season. It's making a positive difference this season.

Even the match commentators agreed that the penalty decisions were correct at the time and then gradually changed their opinions as the situation of the match developed. This paved the way for BT Sport and most of the press to make the whole narrative about VAR when actually every decision was correct. In the first half, Mcmanaman and Keown both said that the "clear and obvious" rule is a good thing as it allows the referee more control over the game. Then by the second half their views had miraculously changed.

Watching the replay, it's obvious that Odegaard planted his foot into Ederson's path in order to instigate the contact. Odegaard knows his best bet is to look for a pen at that stage. Ederson's foot is about to take the ball cleanly before Odegaard's foot goes in front of the ball as he does so. Ederson then makes contact with the ball and player at the same time.

As for the Silva penalty, there's contact but he does perhaps make the most of the first challenge as most players would but the clincher was the shirt pull which was "clear and obvious." Without the shirt pull it would probably not have been given as a pen.

There's an obvious distinction between both incidents which the commentators noted at the time but the coverage has chosen to ignore since in order to suit their chosen narrative.
At least MotD accepted the decisions.

Anyone else doing this ?? watched 93.20 for days on end.. do not know why, but having great satisfaction from watching highlights of this match again and again..Ad astra per Aspera..CTID.

Gabriel wasn't booked for that, he was booked for dissent.

Ramsdale was not booked.
Blimey, so they both 'got away with it' - I'm not a fan of retrospective punishment, God knows we have had it done to us in the past, but this sort of shitehousery needs looking at. Gits.

Anyone post again the photo of Lacazette holding Jesus' shirt at the penalty (the one that shows the shirt in his hand)?

I'm just imagining if Ramsdale had saved the pen, and Jesus couldn't reach it because of the shirt holding - and the meltdown if that went to VAR and the outcome was another penalty, and Lacazette sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity!
