Arsenal(FA Cup Semi Final) Post Match Thread

my god we whinge a lot
I think people are entitled to. Not to go all Rafa but let's look at some facts here.

In 2012 we won the title. The next season we refused to invest at the same rate as our rivals. This was for an FFP that we failed anyway so brought no benefit. From that title win, it became clear that we were attempting to recreate the Barca model and the success that it brought and Mancini was not going to fit into that mold.

From 2012 to 2016 we were essentially in a holding pattern. We attempted to appoint people in key roles of the club that would work in a Pep based team. We attempted to purchase players who would play in a Pep team. We built a new Academy with all of the philosophies that Pep expected. We appointed managers that would lay foundations for Peps arrival.

Pep is one the best managers who has ever lived. His record speaks for itself and those who try to excuse it are ridiculous. But the club here was designed for him to walk in and elevate us. That hasn't happened.

Now it's fair to say that many things haven't gone to plan. FFP put a dent in our progress as did some puzzling decisions on not insisting on quotas for youth graduation. Pellegrini brought attacking mentality and started building a high line defensive system but couldn't implement it properly.

Pep was supposed to walk into a club setup for him. Instead he walked into a club with no youth promotion, a squad that was too important to sell but too aged to keep, and a system of play that required a major overhaul.

I'd argue if you build a club for the eventual appointment of that manager then that manager should not have to spend his first season implanting his core basic philosophies on it.

Pep came in with the biggest reputation in the game but has suffered the same problems as Pellegrini and Mancini before him. This club doesn't know it's a big club and doesn't act like one. It allows snail paced football from its team while those in the stands sit quietly. It allows the media and referees to dictate to us on their terms. They didn't even go after UEFA in the courts when they got screwed.

We've got the expectations of Barcelona yet the psychology of Barnsley. In almost ten years of the takeover that was designed to make us among the biggest in the world we've won two league titles and are still rolling around the same problems as we had under Hughes.

People are disappointed because we're becoming Arsenal like in writing off seasons after season.

I've no doubt that Pep will get it right because I see the changes he's making to how we play but he has not been the revolution that many including me expected because the club was not and is still not in a place where he can take it forward.

Yaya went out on his shield, which I was happy to see.

Clichy at fault for both goals and I hate that useless bastard with a passion.
Agree & disagree Tolm, you watch Sane defend he was fucking awful & not great going at anyone today.

Him & Sterling looked half the players they are.

Yes agree for the second goal Clichy has to do better but should never have got to Sanchez the equaliser was Sane doing fook all to help his defenders & a absolute peach of a ball.

From the minute they equalised imo there was only 1 winner unless we smashed 1 in from outside the box.

Our final ball is embarrassing & when we get half a chance we take the wrong choice.
Can't fault the back 5 much even though we have 2 away, the post & bar + a perfect good goal disallowed oh & a penalty it just wasn't our day.

Sanchez has to be on our radar he is there best player by a country mile..

People can moan about performances all they like the fact is we have had another big game where the ref was a big factor in the result again... Something feels inevitable about Thursday's game...

PEP: At the end of course we are sad, but tomorrow we must stand up to finish the games we have still to play.

PEP: Today we created more chances than Arsenal but we knew how good they are. I don’t have regrets

#PEP: (On injuries sustained) We'll see with the doctor tomorrow.

PEP: (On goal ruled out] It's a job for the referee. It doesn't matter, I don't want to talk about that. The reality is the ball was out.

PEP: We will improve. The players will stay here, some will leave and some will come. Next season we will be stronger

Was hoping he'd be a bit more fired up or something. Guess he doesn't do that in public though.

Great job by Arsenal take out city's greatest ever player, the officials were more blind than Stevie wonder and we were too slow in our build up

Totally underwhelmed by Guardiola ......thus far.

Today was a match to show his worth and yet again he fell short.

Not one player has improved under him. Sterling showed flashes earlier in the season but they were exactly that....flashes.

No sign of youth been given a chance.

Opposition happy to concede possession knowing we will do fuck all in the final third.

Officials don't help but it's not an excuse ......loris should have walked yesterday, Chelsea players didn't let it get in their heads ....just got on with it and ground out a result.

Oh and one last thing ......how unfit are we? How can a 20 year old who I don't think has played THAT many matches this season (will have to check exact number) be dead on his feet ??!?

Disappointing but looking at the positives .....a cup win would have papered over the cracks, and cost a bomb

i agree mate, were no better than last season and i think pep complicates things for the players, its ok saying its his first season its also Conte first season and pegs and they both look like they could win 2 trophies and finish top 4. 5 out of 10 this season

our own worst enemy hit post twice stonewall pen not given and perfectly good goal chalked off hopefully it evens out on Thursday as that's what the twats keep saying
How the fuck are we going to get a whole season of shit decisions go our way in one game? Not renewing to watch referees. Can't be arsed with it no more

Totally agree mike, said it at the time, what fucks me off about pep is that he has been brought in to put the mentality into the players but we don't seem any further on in this regard.

Very disappointed with that. Not sure how me managed to lose to such a bang average team.

Having a beer on the train train back with young Tom!

Am i the only one who thinks Kevin was shit, and wasted that free role opportunity he got given to him.

I think he's been crap this season and should definitely be worried about his place for next season if his form this season continues (13 assists, blah, blah blah). He needs to produce much, much more.

I have serious concerns about Peps man management. Thought it was telling that at half time of extra time the majority of players were hanging about the centre of the pitch rather than rushing over to hear Peps words of wisdom.

They have no ibra...so they are forced to play properly which may fall into place for city. Then again stamina will 100% play its part.

So predictable, same old story. start well, miss chances, a bit of dodgy reffing, take foot off pedal, Yaya slows it down to tippy tappy , we let the opposition in, they score , there was only going to be one winner after that
