Their dislike for City is almost childlike. I have the displeasure of living in an area where the two local clubs are Southend and Colchester yet a vast number support Arsenal rather thasn their local club.

When they rant the usual rubbish about City, money, runining football, I highlight their clubs own role in the formation of the Premier league, threatening to form a super league if they didnt get a dispropertionate amount of TV revenue, and also highlight they are happy to cherry pick clubs such as Southamptons best players.

How far are Colchester & Southend from Manchester ?

I'd be interested to see the size of their weekly home and away support if they went 34 years without winning a trophy.

Sadly I'll either be 71 or dead by then. :-)

We did 17 years without between 53 and 70, so the club would probably survive if the drought continues. Newcastle haven't won anything for 50 odd years. Everton have 1 pot to show for the last 30 odd years. Spurs have won 2 League Cups in 25 years. Liverpool won a League Cup, but by most standards have suffered a far worse 7 years than we have.

You're not the only ones to have suffered long stretches of nothing. The only difference is none of the others have had to put up with continually successful local rivals.

That might be the case, but it's laughable that Arsenal fans can question our support and loyalty.

No doubt most of it was banter, but I'm 100% sure some Arsenal fans actually believe the... "where were you when you we shit" bollox.


TBH Arsenal haven't been the only away fans that have sung it. In fact, who hasn't sung it? :-)

I could barely hear them at all. I'm starting to think that this is due to my relocated seat position as others seem to be saying they were loud. Strange really as I'm nearer to the away fans than I was.

So the original posters comment of supporting your local team doesn't affect a City fan. I understand people move away and still follow their club or family history affects who you support and not where you live, why can't he!

I am a bit disappointed by the comments on here, always thought the real City fans to be quite original with their chants etc and appreciate good support. I thought the banter between opposing fans is what makes football, yet our attempt at a poznan(home and away) and vocally supporting our team is derided - some of the songs we and ALL clubs sing are cringeworthy, but you cant win Highbury library or Loudmouthed Twats?. Originality in songs is not always best...The sky commentator in the box will submit to that!

We all have the same newbie support that has diluted our clubs in the sky era but some of us still exist. In 1987 we played you lot at your spiritual home we were 0-3 down but you were facing relegation, the banter(and even a conga on the platt lane benches) are the sorts of things that stick in the memory for me. The piss taking of our support by the section next to us on the north stand despite being 4-0 up (shall we sing a song for you Arsenal in the "cockney accent" etc - you had to be there) was fucking annoying but still funny!

Don't knock the banter between fans,in days of ridiculous prices,little relation to current players who show no loyalty to their clubs or fans. There isn't much left!

I'll leave you to slag off the cockney newbie with too much to say as I still have a prawn sarnie to eat.

No, its not like you are Chelski who have had sub-10,000 crowds in the Premiership era. On the other hand I reckon you have started attracting JCLs as well, just like us, United and of course Chelski. Doesn't do those people any harm to have their nose dragged in it.

Like you say, its a bit of harmless banter. Funny thing is I can't ever remember there being any malice in the atmosphere at AFC v MCFC matches. Not even in the 80s when there was a poisonous atmosphere at a lot of matches against a lot of clubs.

I spend alot of time in London through work and my wife is also from London. The Arsenal fans I know are decent lads. Absolutely envious of what progress we are making and were chuffed to bits each time we beat the RAGs (FA Cup & League)

There were a load of them in the pub (The Grove) yesterday, decent lads. Friendly banter.
