Arsenal Fans Today

The Arsenal fans who have contributed on here are obviously articulate and erudite but i have to say over the last four or five years they have changed from being pretty decent to being dare i say it just like Spurs fans. They have certainly got very gobby and antagonistic for whatever reason, yesterday they were the loudest i have heard them having said that we were abysmal, they played well yesterday and all credit to them , certainly they seem a more complete team and although i can't see them challenging for the title if we don't buck our ideas up it might be us and them challenging each other for the automatic Champions league place.

Why is it fans from Liverpool , Arsenal , Trafford , constantly get being successful , and "having history" mixed up?
are they really that fuckin stupid ?
Yes they've had more recent success than us , but that doesn't mean Manchester City FC are another MK Dons .

We were formed 1894 / 95 , if thats not ' having history ' what the fuck is ?.................

They obviously measure history by trophies and nothing else.

Its not as if we hadn't won any of those either ,

It's arrogance to the extreme. We are the 8th most successful team in English football history, so if 20+ total major honours seems to be the prerequisite for having a history like they seem to imply, that means the only clubs with history in English football are United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. Ridiculous comment by ridiculous "fans". The scum by the way are still 12 trophies behind Liverpool, does that mean they only have half a history or something?

I'm an Arsenal fan but I may be not as articulate or as erudite as some on here but I will do my best.

I wasnt at the game yesterday but I have been to some recent games at Eastlands and sadly see us lose. I now live in Kent (hving grown up in Highbury/North London)and it's a long way home when you get beat!

I don't want to talk about the game as such as I think both teams had their chances and on balance think it was a fair result. To be honest when I saw M Dean was ref, I feared the worst as in his last 14 games in which Arsenal were involved we only won one.

I want to talk about some of the negative stuff on here directed at Arsenal.

First off, I don't know any Arsenal fan who didn't cheer and applaud when you pipped Man Yoo to the title last season. Well deserved and most of us Gooners hate Man Yoo anyway, so the gut wrenching disappointment the Man Yoo fans and playrs and old red nose felt at the
last especially when Sunderland fans took the piss was brilliant.

I know some great guys who are City fans and I've always admired the way they stuck through thick and thin when struggling on lower divisions.....Paul Dickov, anyone?

On a personal note, I'm an old git who was at Manchester University in the early 70s and was lucky enough to see Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee in their prime. Top players. I used to stand in the Kippax at Maine Road.

I was in hall in Fallowfield and walked to the ground across Platt Fields.

Anyway, I've never seen any problem with City fans (actually, I think they are a good bunch)

I do go to a number of away matches and generally, we Arsenal fans are pretty well behaved and usually have good banter with other fans. However, in recent years there has unfortunately been a growing number of younger tossers giving us a bad name. I apologise for that, but to be honest, all clubs have a mindless minority full of stupidity.

Maybe, it's because I'm an old git but we used to at least have respect for the traditions and history of other clubs. I wish we had. Colin Bell playing for us today......lucky enough to have seen him play many times......he really was that good.

Anyway, fond memories and respect from this Gooner.

BTW Eastlands is so much better than Maine Road!

We're antagonistic towards you because you're now a rival. Simple as. Your rivals tend to be either local or those who are directly challenging you for honours - hence ours being Spurs, United, Chelsea, West Ham and now yourselves.

Honestly, just take it as a compliment. I'm sure we were lovely and respectful towards you when Henry banged in a sixth and left Richard Dunne on his arse, but now you've got Joe Hart in net, Vincent Kompany bossing it at the back, Yaya Toure in the middle and David Silva and Sergio Aguero dovetailing up top. As you get bigger and more successful you'll get targeted more. Just enjoy it!

Yeah it's annoying that you've got all this money and pinched a few of our better players, but we don't begrudge the fans their moment in the sun. I remember watching the results come in from the last day of the season in a student union bar about four or five years ago when you got tonked 8-1 by Middlesbrough I think it was (must've been in the Sven days) with a City supporting mate of mine, and all these morons in United shirts from Kent and Hull and Cambridge and wherever else they spring up from were giving him so much abuse. I love that you've wiped the smile off their faces and long may it continue.

To be honest, most fans are decent people. The only two groups I have a problem with are Man United 'fans' from all corners of the country who spout off their rubbish and never go to matches (they've normally got some story about their grandfather having been to Manchester once), and Chelsea, because they've had serious issues with racism and fascist political groups over the years and believe me, it's still there. But even then it's unfair to generalise.

Brilliant thread and am glad to see that City have woken up to what I've been aware of for a lot of years, that Arsenal fans are the most deluded, self righteous, holier than thou, high horse climbing, bitter shirt over jumper wearing, kebab munching, clueless to their own corrupt roots, nomadic inbreds, G14 closed shop, everyone has to play by our rules, warped view on what constitutes history, bunch of tarts out there....ps Liverpool are a close second !
