Arsenal (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I'm still fascinated at how quickly City's appeals for a penalty for hand ball by Gabriel in the first couple of minutes were dismissed when I thought it was a penalty. What really surprised me though was that the Arsenal header which deflected off Nico's back onto our post was given much lengthier and serious consideration (just because his arm was in the air?).

Later in the game my mind strayed back to the Madrid match when the game was ruines by Bernado's handball. No doubt, a clear sending off, no question, the referee left with no choice ... but when Gabriel puts the nut on Haaland ... no we can't ruin a big game with a sending off, it wasn't a mandatory sending off, it wasn't really aggressive enough so the referee exercised creditable discretion so bugger the rules ( and anyway it's Arsenal, Gabriel hasn't had a red card all season?)

You know you can trust Alty to get the priorities of the game right ....
It was a penalty for us all day long

I expected them to be better than the cup final. We were never going to dramatically change our approach so it was easier for them to prepare. Odegaard was the main difference, he helped their back 4 by dropping in which meant our 4 man block was less effective and he helped lead their press which led to some shaky play at the back for much of the first half.

But in terms of statistics, they had more possession but only a couple more shots/shots on target than in the cup final. We only had two shots on target to win the cup, and increased that on Sunday so our metrics were actually better.

They can look at a fair few chances - Havertz' shot saved, Eze and Gabriel hitting the post, Havertz' header late on. They can also be happy with their goal - a gift, Gabriel staying on the pitch after the headbutt and even the Gabriel arm block from Cherki's shot which could have been interpreted as handball on a different day. His arm was in a natural position, tucked in, but he moved it towards the ball to make the block.

We can look at Haaland's shot and then Cherki's follow up off the post. Khusanov's chance and Haaland's follow up against the post. Semenyo's awful touch when through on goal. It was fairly even, but considering they got gifted their goal I still think we edged it.
They went long 95% of the game rather than trying to play through our block. That is what contributed to the chaotic feel of the game as there were so many duels for second ball. If you saw Spit’s analysis on MNF, Rodri and Bernie dominated Rice and Zubimendi and I think we deserved the win through that alone.

All ive heard about the Goons since their emphatic and crushing defeat is how well they played and how it bodes well for the rest of the season , its delusion on a grand scale , they have just played their most important game of the season and lost and they are looking for positives , and there is none.
Now they are under estimating our ability to go on and win this title , Pep is a serial winner , Legohead hanst won f*ck all , there is the answer.
It was nearly as good as utds defeat to Arsenal

Pretty clear that Gabriel is shit scared of Haaland. If he'd cut out the grappling and concentrated on getting a step in front of Haaland, he would have stood more chance of getting to the ball first or blocking the shot.
Got his anus given to him. Wouldn’t get in our back 4 the overrated goofy ****.

At the game on Sunday in the south stand and about ten minutes into the second half i had to go for a piss. I was gobsmacked at the amount of people still milling about on the concourse. Just stood there drinking and chatting while the game was going on. Why?? It baffled me. Such an important game on a knife edge and they couldn't give a fuck, just drinking and chatting away. Why don't these people save their money and just watch it in the pub?? I'd love to know why they do this.

Just a social occasion to meet mates and have a good drink, seem to be not particularly interested in the game?

I see it was the most watched Premier league game ever in America.

Not a bad audience for players like O'Reilly, Cherki and Haaland etc to showcase their talents!

It's great for this amazing club to be viewed so widely. I'm sure we would have picked up a huge numbers of fans just from this one game.

Now we just have to beat Burnley :)

We missed half a dozen chances also. Arse were better than they have been in a while but we were still clear and deserved winners
Yeah I don't know know why we're being told it was a great Arsenal performance.

At times it genuinely reminded me of some of our dominant CL games over the years Vs Madrid it Bayern (not quite at that level though!)

They pressed a bit but we dominated midfield.

Keep hearing "what if havertz or eze scored"?

Yeah but what if

Donna didn't fuck up
Haaland scored instead of hitting post
Semenyo controlled the 1 on 1
Pen was given against Gabriel
Gabriel got a red
Etc etc

I don't understand your reply. They've paid to watch probably our most important game of the season that at the time was 1-1. The second half had been in progress for ten minutes and theyre standing around chatting and drinking like the game's not even happening. It's odd.

The chap who usually sits next to me bemoans the early leavers. Sits down 5 mins after ko, goes back down on 35 mins, comes back up 10 mins into the 2nd half.
