It was until Howard Kendall had the pitch narrowed because ‘Peter Reid would never to able to cover the space’. I assume that Kevin Keegan would have widened the pitch later.Wasn’t the old Maine Road pitch broader by a couple of yards than nearly all other First Division pitches? I seem to remember reading that.
