After the biggest bottlejob ever 2 seasons back, they've been surviving off the "nobody can compete with the machine that is city" excuse.

Well this season the city machine malfunctioned, the title was there for the taking, a pitiful 84 points would get you it and they've missed that mark by a mile. I would argue their failure to win the title this season is a bigger bottlejob than the biggest capitulation ever.

They were dreaming of us failing off a cliff, they got their wish and they still fucked it up. Long after Arteta is gone, they'll look back on this season and recognise the chance they squandered.

Still think the Rags get off very lightly in losing an 8 point gap with 6 games to go. The biggest bottle job was them coming to our gaff and setting up for 0-0.

We had a 3 game streak without a win just before that picking up just 2 points from 9 then we got the reprieve with wigan beating them the following week. To be entirely fair, from that point it was only the Everton game they fucked up. Coming to the Etihad was the difference maker but can't really slate a side for losing against the eventual champions away

But the past is the past and if I look forward whose team would I rather have - Arsenal's or Spurs? I don't think that's a difficult question to answer. Spurs won a trophy for a competition they were in that we weren't and had to beat Vitesse, Bodo Glimt and a shit Rags team along the way. I'm fairly confident if you put Arsenal in a weaker competition like the Championship they'd romp that - sure it's a trophy but past is past and I'm looking forward to the next season and who is more likely to challenge for the PL and CL - Arsenal or Spurs?

It won’t be cheating Arsenal; they’ll bottle it.
 
While he remains in charge they will continue to go on failling ............he is over emotional which rubs of on the team ...........when they battered you they went over the top and the end result yet another big drop off the same as the Madrid game they simply cannot help themselves can they.
This has been one of the poorest premier league in years a huge chance to win the title and yet they dont even get anywhere near.

Teams that win leagues tend to be teams that can keep most of their main players fit. We got close last season when we were able to do that by in large, and like other teams had a drop off when we couldn't.

We also struggled with creativity in the final third as we are so easy to defend against - basically double up on Saka and then the opponent knows there is no real out ball for Odegaard. We also seem to have been afflicted by the same illness City's players had which resulted in a massive aversion to taking shots on goal.

We'll get some attackers in for sure but there's no guarantee it will be enough as the system isn't very fluid. I'm also looking at Liverpool's imminent signing of Florian Wirtz. Personally I've not seen enough of him to decide if he's worth all that money but my German colleagues reckon he's a generational talent.

We have potentially unearthed the wonderkid in 15 year old Max Dowman but he's hardly going to be ready to feature much next season.

I'm not aware of how much business City will do - they went big in the winter transfer window so how much of the kitty is left for transfers I don't know but with £80m coming in for the Club World Championship plus no doubt they'll sell some players we have to expect they'll strengthen as well on top of the fact Rodri will be back.

I reckon we might get 3rd next season.

I mean, lose your defenders or defensive midfielders you generally concede more goals, lose attacking midfielders and forwards you struggle to create and score goals?

Its tough to predict until we see how all teams do in the market. We didn't have a good season domestically but there were extenuating circumstances that explain a lot of it, some outwith our control like injuries, some more within our control like stupid sending offs and not getting a forward in January.

I agree that we need a bit of a spark in the forward areas again, so let's see what tweaks we do. The system you say isn't very fluid but it was good enough to score goals and win games the last 6 months of last season, and the first 6 months of the season before, so that suggests to me it's more a personnel issue. We're still a tough team to beat as our results in the big games show, we just need more to convert draws into wins in the other games. But yeah, I expect Liverpool and City both to be right up there as well.
 
Sometimes it helps if the players are allowed to think for themselves on the pitch instead of having a load of coaches on the touch line orchestrating their every move.
 
Zubimendi on his way. That's a great bit of business at £50 million. Cracking little player
