Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

When did football on TV come in then? One of my earliest football TV memories was Arsenal winning the league in 1989. And getting top level football for free was great. Then it went to Sky and my parents wouldn't buy it so I had to move onto Football Italia on Channel 4 and settle for MOTD.
I remember that, but I think that was a one off due to it being a title decoder - wasn't it on council telly? Sky was when it took off really took off with shite like Monday Night Football and Super Sunday.

I think ....

No, there was regular matches on after that, I think I remember an Everton-Villa game in the 89/90 season where Everton had conceeded 5 goals and maybe scored 1 or 2 but were still trying quite hard. I remember loads of Liverpool matches on too, Liverpool losing to Arsenal also.

Which reminds of sneaking down after my bed time the next season to watch Villa beat Inter 2-0 in the UEFA at home in the dining room. Sadly they lost 3-0 in the away fixture. That Inter team had prime Matteus and Klinsman. Villa had quite the team in the early 90s

ITV had "The Match" showing live games for a couple of seasons or so, before Sky came on the scene, hence Alan Sugar's infamous phone call to Dear Mr Murdoch's shower, informing them of ITV’s bid.

Mosquera out for 8 weeks. That's 3 of the 4 centre backs out although Saliba will be back soon.

Given that virtually our entire forward line was out for much of the season and now the defenders are out, if we win the title this season is that the most impressive title win given the circumstances?

Googling:

The first live league match on free-to-air television since 1960 was screened on ITV, between Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, on 2 October 1983.

You’ll catch a few with that one. Excellent effort

Max we can get is 105. No chance we will only drop 4.

We will get around 90 points.
You've gone full on Typical City there. Been on here far too long.

You should have baited us with 'I think we could drop 3 more pints, bit I'm confident we'll get 102 points'.

You'll have for a shot load of responses.

We've had Isiaih Dada-Mascoll out for almost two full seasons but don't cry about it. Which £50m/£70m centre back will replace him? Calafiori? Timber? Ben Orange? You must have 20 players or so who cost major fees and yet still whinge about injuries. It really does become tedious but that is what Capt Black encourages.

If you believe that nonsense… you seriously need help.
