Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

BBC commentary just slowed down. Chavs v Newcastle suddenly 2 mins ahead, penalty/ corner coming up

Max Dowman scores ONE goal (in 3 appearances) and Sky says a "Star is born" and "He's announced himself to the world".

Not a shred of bias though eh?

Let’s be honest. No team was ever going to beat us replicating our style. The only manager capable of going toe to toe with Pep was Klopp with high octane football.

It was going to take a Conte, Simeone style to totally counter it. Big, powerful players, playing direct percentage football. Arteta identified that as he was with us for years under Pep, that style of football would get under Pep and our skin and would also push against the style of everyone trying to replicate us… a game they’d never beat us at.

Arteta identified it and has bought in the players and the coaching staff to act it out, and this season it seems successfully.

It’s on the other sides to work out how to counter it, or get better at it. I really don’t want us to ‘join that style’, but Christ are we being ignorant to it with our embarrassing set piece set ups in both defence and attack.

I doubt arteta gives two fucks how they win it but as a fan all your going to be reading is how they won it, these players have 100% told by the manager to do these things.
We used to call out the south American leagues for this type of play but it’s spread to the prem in recent years but the level the arsenal players take it to is right up there.
Whatever they think they’ll get away with they’ll keep on doing it.
But why oh why don’t refs call it out ?
How can they keep faking injury’s falling over with a breath of wind wrestling at corners and especially like the clip above so blatant cheating and still refs don’t do something about it.
So the players will celebrate the premier league title but leave the fans with the fallout of being the club that can only win by cheating. We know all to well that once your labeled for something it’s very difficult to shake that reputation of being cheats.

We're on course for 76 points. Any style would have beaten us this year and last.

If you think gamesmanship is a new phenomenon and that the Chelsea and Rags title winning sides didn't do this at least as much as Arsenal do then I've got a bridge to sell you.

I think what supposedly gets the media in a frenzy is the set piece goals and physicality but this is the same media that criticised us for being fragile and that Arsenal 'always try to walk the ball in' so there's no pleasing some people.

Yeh I see what you mean mate and it’s not me being bitter or anything it’s just that wherever I go and football gets talked about the subject of “arsenals cheating” always gets mentioned and it just remindes me of all the shit we get. Like you will never hear
Of city being inocent from anywhere and once that label sticks that’s it.
I guess as a fan we have to have thick skin these days

Chelsea and the rags did it, but this current version of gamesmanship is another level. It’s blatant cheating and theatrics in my opinion. And you can keep your fucking bridge thank you.

That's disgusting, what Arsenal and Liverpool have turned our league into is shameful.
The referees are doing nothing. To be fair only Arsenal are cheating to an extreme and organised level. But other teams are copying their fake time-outs and wrestling at corners. Both City and West Ham played honestly yesterday in a very physical match. I don’t think Liverpool under Slot are that bad, apart from one usual suspect.

I haven't watched Liverpool under Slot so you may be right, I more meant that Liverpool started this road when VAR came in and the referees became crippled by indecision and terrified of press criticism.
Arsenal have taken this in a slightly different direction by adding wrestling and fake timeouts to the diving but they're still cheating using the weak referees and a complicit media to get results and, more than likely, unearned trophies.

In your honesty opinion do you think Arteta's tactics of using physicality for set piece goals are acceptable within the rules of the game?
Does diving your way to a title make it worth it?
Is it morally acceptable to fake injuries to make mid-game team talks, tactical tweaks and relieve pressure on your defence?
How many points do you honestly think your team have won without cheating their way over the line?
