6 seasons with zero trophies at one of the biggest football clubs on the planet though. What other serious big club would that return be acceptable at?

Before Lego Head took over they were an absolute shit show, a team that constantly got bullied and battered most weeks.

They've now made themselves tough to beat and finishing high up the table on numerous occasions, although they haven't got over the line yet they've still made huge strides considering how they performed before Arteta.

Maybe he isn't the man to take them to that level, but it's a dangerous game to sack him as the replacement could well bring them back to finishing 4th or 5th every season.

Or the replacement could win them trophies which is the requirement of being manager of a big club.

Take a look a Chelsea and United, how many managers have they chopped and changed over the last few seasons?

Both big clubs and both way worse off than Arsenal, both clubs would love to be in Arsenal's position right now.

Instead of chopping and changing twice a season, they've stuck to Arteta and are trying to get a title over the line in which they are close to doing.

Chelsea and United are a million miles off winning a league title and both have changed managers, players more than Katie Price has changed blokes, so sacking mangers isn't always the choice.

I think your approach is broadly correct but losing several titles from leading positions (if that happens again this season) does put a different spin on things.

Worse off than Arsenal in this moment in time. Despite all of Chelsea’s chopping and changing this method has still delivered them Premier & Champions league titles in recent enough memory.

You can’t just keep finishing second forever. Something has to give and 6 years is more than enough time with the backing he has had to have delivered a major trophy

It certainly does, losing titles from winning positions in the past and possibly again this season certainly won't go down well and definitely something the board has to consider in the summer if Arteta fails to win it again.

I just think it's a big risk to sack Arteta as they could well go through another transition that could take years and again might not work out at all.

Funny old game football, they could get a new man in and could be gone after 6 months OR they he could win it in his first season.

In football its hard to keep everybody happy, Media and fans piss and moan about managers being sacked constantly, yet when a club sticks by a manager they also give out and want him sacked...Funny old game!

You could well be correct.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I just think it's a dangerous game if they are to go sown the route of sacking him.

A new mangers wants his own players and different style of football which could well take years to happen, if it even happens at all.

It's a huge call for the club.

I was on the tube after we beat them in the Carabao cup
Their own fans we having the stick or twist argument it got heated and they actually started fighting amongst themselves.Only stopped when somebody pointed out there were women and children present.
He massively divides their own fan base.
For me personally I would get rid his brand of negative anti football is the reason. They have the players to play expansive attacking football and the don’t .
Down to the manager in my opinion

Recruiting a new manager is not an exact science and with all the moving parts involved what looks like a good appointment can turn out to be a disaster. Thomas Frank is a good manager but he went to the loony house for football appointments at Spurs. Xavi Alonso who’s stock was higher than anyones for an up and coming manager failed in the vipers nest at Madrid.

Arteta has restored some consistency to Arsenal in their league positioning. They used to yo-yo in and out of the champions league spaces which doesn’t help for revenue and squad building. He has some good players and they are still in the hunt for the league and champions league which is no accident. Getting rid of him coild result in them going backwards. Look at what is happening at Liverpool with Slott having to break up and build a new team from what they had with Klopp.
 
If, IF!, they don't win anything this season given the time and resources given to him then Arteta must be vulnerable. Reason being that it would be obvious that either the manager or the players are not good enough. Therefore, to improve and make that final step, either the manager must go or there needs to be an overhaul of the playing staff. Given that their squad must now be full with (expensive) players on long contracts, the most obvious conclusion is that Legohead has taken them as far as he can.
 
I'm expecting us (Arsenal) to lose today and a draw would be a great result. We don't have the firepower to win I don't think.

Even if we won the league this season it would have been done in the most attritional way. I'd be wanting to see what we were doing to be more creative moving forward. Signing a bunch of strikers and wingers doesn't address that if the core philosophy is to remain ultra conservative.

And you could be correct however the argument you are using can be recycled year after year after year after year…
