Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

I have always felt that for an English team to win the CL an awful lot of things have to fall in the right place.
Take tonight's teams. Bayern have the league sown up weeks ago. They can rest players when they need to.
PSG had games postponed so they didn't have to play before these two semi finals.

Madrid and Barca really don't have to worry about qualifying for next season's competition as they almost always come first and second in La Liga.

Contrast that with City, Liverpool and Arsenal who have to negotiate these quarter and semi finals whilst in the midst of ultra competitive league games.

Arsenal have abandoned their traditional style of play which was more like ours as it was consistently not good enough to beat us or Liverpool. So they have become dull, overcautious and introduced lots of playacting. But they are not the first team to do that.
I remember my favourite Brazil side in 1982, losing to a more pragmatic outfit in Italy. I was disappointed like I was when Holland lost to Germany and then Argentina. But that's sport for you. The beauty doesn't always beat the beast and it would be very boring if everyone played the same.
Having said that I hope one of today's teams wins the final as they both put entertainment at the top of their agenda.

I don't complain about teams coming to defend against us because if they tried to be expansive they get taken to the cleaners.

So far Arteta has found something that works but whatever they win they'll not be remembered for long although doubt gooners will care.

In fact the manner of our own win in the final against Inter means our team is not garlanded with the same praise as the PSG team last year who routed Inter. Had our magnificent win against Madrid been the final then we'd likely be remembered alongside Pep's Barca, du Stefano's Madrid and Cruyff's, the player, Ajax.

As great as that Holland team was in the 70's, neither Germany in 74 or Argentina in 78 were brutes. That's not a great example.

Yeah, Arsenal is finished. PSG has UEFA behind them, they are untouchable. I'll have to support the corruption for the first time since 2022, when Franco FC beat the dippers in UCL final.
Not sure,

I only watched a bit of Arse the other night, turned tv on to see a stonewall penalty not given because, surprise surprise, Gabriel throws himself across an attacker to get a foul.

He is one of the biggest C***s in the game

We'll Arsenal aren't 70s Leeds either. They just play in a very negative manner. I agree the German and Argentina teams had plenty like as did the 83 Italian team. I was just comparing them with 2 teams that played the game beautifully.

Agreed, cheating Arsenal don’t foul opponents like dirty Leeds did, but no team does nowadays; they wouldn’t get away with it.

However, dirty Leeds didn’t waste time and feign injury, unlike today’s cheating Arsenal.

I’m not sure which I deplore more.

Strangest fanbase about
Most of us worry we might lose, so you would be thinking we’re a good team but Chelsea could beat us……let’s hope we turn up.
Whereas Arsenal fans spend the whole time telling us they are gonna win the league and beat PSG etc
Is it to convince themselves or everyone else
Would be so funny if they don’t beat West Ham

If Arsenal do win their remaining three games they will finish on 85 points. Not the lowest to win it as in 33 seasons ten have finished with fewer points - see below.

Season Winners Points
1992–93 Manchester United 84
1995–96 Manchester United 82
1996–97 Manchester United 75
1997–98 Arsenal 78
1998–99 Manchester United 79
2000–01 Manchester United 80
2002–03 Manchester United 83
2010–11 Manchester United 80
2015–16 Leicester City 81
2024–25 Liverpool 84

The takeaway from this is current Arsenal are shit, most of the rags winning teams were shitter and Wenger's 97/98 team were shitist.

All of City's Premier League winning teams were better than the current tarquins.

Does not matter. We have thrown away at least 15 points this season.

Whatever happens this season we can all laugh at their fickleness, preciousness and that cringey contrived "Norf Landan Forevahh" anthem. Can you imagine City, Everton, West Ham, West Brom or Sunderland having that crap (at Molineux they play Led Zep's Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love remixed with input by Robert Plant and it's a brilliant lead up to kick off). Arsenal's is a fittingly embarrassing song for a pathetic, embarrassing, nauseating, overbearing set of arseholes. They will always be a joke.
Cundy calls them cringe and winge FC. That's about right.

If they win it with 85 points that is one less point dropped than we did in winning the League twice

Shows how much of an anomaly City have been over the last 10 years to not even be on there once that

They were physical but I don’t remember them faking injuries, wasting time from the first ten minutes, and just lumping it into the box for most of their goals. None of the current Arsenal team would get on Wenger’s bench.
They wasn’t as bad but still diving bastards
I remember the pires dive against Portsmouth was all over the news at the time not forgetting Henry’s handball in the World Cup then there’s that **** wright who always left a foot in with challenges.
Also not forgetting wenger conveniently
“I didn’t see it” with a smile on his face

All our teams were better, I agree. The winning name on the trophy is all that matters though. Some of those dropped points of ours are beyond frustrating as we near the end.
