Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

This is such utter bullshit. Here's what I said when somebody brought up the whole lot of "not letting referees decide the title" back in November, bolded sections are particularly pertinent to your nonsense;

"Yeah, why should we have to play to the same rules as everybody else, we should just start on -1 goals handicap every game, the players just need to stop being soft and get on with it, we just have to be better than everyone else and overcome the -1 goal deficit.
Do you see how ridiculous that sounds? Why do we have to be "good enough to overcome the referees/take the referees influence out of the game"
or "not be soft and go on to win"?
Why do we have to have a 9/10 performance every game "to take the decisions away from the referee". We're not as good as we were 2 years ago and small margins constantly make a difference. Liverpool had a dip in form at the start of last season but when they did they became the one and only team to get a penalty for holding in the box and the only team to get a goal chalked off for holding in the box, was that them "not being soft" and seeing the game out like the brave soldiers they are or were they allowed to play at a level below their usual and the officials giving them leeway to play into gorm and on to a title?
In the Premier League if you want to take the referee out of the equation you have to dive, cheat, time waste, complain and feign injury otherwise you never get a decision. Playing that way is being 'soft'.
Mentality has nothing to do with it, if the opposition are playing to different rules then mentality is irrelevant. If I was allowed to kick fuck out of a better player than me all game mentality wouldn't come in to it, I'm at an advantage.
Mentality and "not being soft" doesn't stop goalkeepers being allowed to handle the ball outside the box, doesn't stop our players having cheekbones broken with not even a foul being given. You can't hardman your way out of offside rules being irrelevant to your opponent, being brave doesn't stop opponents getting a penalty for the slightest touch while you're being booted all over the place. Being Billy Big Bollocks doesn't stop goals being chalked off because our striker was just stronger than the defender but the opponent can have goals chalked off as an attacker brushed against their keeper when going for the ball."

Honestly, saying "fair play to Arsenal" is a joke when 80% of their tactics is to dive , waste time, wrestle the opposition at set pieces, and crucially, get away with it. They're massive, massive cheats.

Arsenal should have, and have, drawn and lost to opponents they should be beating, just like we have. The difference being though, where we have seen multiple joke decisions throughout the season go against us they, on the other hand, have been bailed out by the cowardly decisions of the refereeing team. Why do West Ham have to play to different rules to Arsenal to ensure their survival? Why can Arsenal wrestle and foul goalkeepers and defenders all season but West Ham can't against Arsenal? Should West Ham just make sure they play much, much better to make sure the referee cant decide the game? How much better does everyone have to be against a media backed team to make sure "the referees don't decide" the result?

If the laws of the game were applied properly in Arsenal games they'd be in 6th
6th is generous.

The problem with this debate is it's asking the wrong question. The question isn't is there a foul committed, it's have we seen those overturned consistently for the same reason for the previous 36 game weeks prior? In week 1, you can debate the rules and decide what is and isn't a foul, in week 36, the precedents have been set and you stick by them until the end. There's many, many examples already flooding the internet to show the decision doesn't align with 36 weeks of games prior. So why has it changed now, In this game?

Was having a few pints, granted. But I watched that back about 300 times like everyone else had to, and beyond the usual corner wrestling bollocks (which Arsenal have somehow made just part of football), I still cant see where the foul is?
Pints or not, you are absolutely correct.

The problem is, the VAR decided to send a picture of an arm across Reya and chose to ignore everything else that was going on.

If this approach had been taken all season Arse would not be top.

Arse have taken the game to a new low and the officials are allowing it to happen.

It fucking stinks tbh, they aren't known as the Bank of England Club for nowt.

I’m 100% with you. If that was disallowed in August, fair dos. But they haven’t been

Arsenal has built their season on that and for balance, Bernado should have given a pen away V Everton but seemingly all bets were off at set pieces

But now, week 35, they seem to have decided to change the interpretation of what is/is not a foul

A fucking joke

Arsenal are highly likely going to win this league. They deserve to. They've been the best team all season. I think people's hatred of their fanbase is interfering with their judgement. I'll still be happy for Mikel.

The VAR decision was correct. Anyone debating against that is just silly. It being an inconsistent call also doesn't take away from the fact it was the correct call. The discourse needs to be about the inconsistency in refereeing this season, not on whether that was a foul or not. I also don't see how this shows we don't need VAR. The tool is good, the users aren't. This was a good example of it being applied correctly.

It’s never a foul. It’s rough and tumble. Forget us, West Ham are more or less down because of that
Obviously we can all agree that it's bent is one factor but the thing that irritated me most is that this blatant cheating will potentially relegate a club.
Terrible and then you have Lego head smirking about the win.

Nice try you silly tarquin but you ain't fooling anyone.

I’m not going down the ‘bent’ path but I agree, that should not relegate a team

"The tool is good, the users aren't. This was a good example of it being applied correctly." The debate is - why hasn't the rule been applied correctly in the preceding 35 weeks? Arsenal have been abusing the rules since the start of the season - little wonder they have the record for the most goals from set pieces.

And good on them for doing it. They've found a way they can exploit it and they've done so effectively.

The way the PGMOL has handled set pieces this season is nothing but a joke.

Yep. It stings to see this happen to West Ham. I've always felt their fan base and ours are kindred spirits. I really feel for them.

Grow up. The irrational hatred for Arsenal has gotten a bit much. Half the people here are more obsessed with them then they are our own fucking club.

Happy for Mikel? Were you happy for him when he was harbouring Thomas Partey last season and saying he was glad he scored a goal cause he’s been going through a tough time away from the field.

You expect the supporters of the 2nd placed club not to be interested in the nefarious activities of the 1st placed club ?
I can understand having a whinge at the PGMOL but turning this into a grand conspiracy is a bit much.

Wasn't that like 4 years ago to begin with? And yeh it was a fucked thing to say but I think it's more of a symptom than anything.
