Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

Beat PSG and they can start having conversations about being among the best title winners of recent times, but if they get beaten (or worse, hammered) then they'll just go alongside 2024 Liverpool or 2017 Chelsea or even 2021 City where you'd have to do a bit of googling to remember who even won the league in that particular year.
Even Liverpool of last season who I don’t think were a great team. They saw an opportunity that the league was weak and they went out and put themselves out of reach killing off an any hope anyone else had of making a challenge.

This Arsenal team had the opportunity to win this seasons league in the exact same manner but they kept slipping up and allowed a City team clearly in transition to push them right to the end.

To their credit the dippers came to our place last season and took 3 points from the defending champions. Yes we were shite form at the time but arsenal in the same scenario would have still come and played for a point.

Says it all really..

It's a bit of a weird list they've got there and it would be good if there was more information available about how the Key Match Incident panel actually works.
For example, they say Everton should have had a penalty against us for Bernardo holding in the box but don't mention the holding by Arsenal players multiple times per game in every single game of the season. If Bernardo holding should have been a penalty why wasn't it a penalty for West Ham due to the holding by Trossard, Rice and Gabriel?
It also mentions the Dalot red card but not the red card that should have been given in the Everton game. It seems very unlikely that a panel of 5 people looked at those decisions and the majority decided the decision made by the referee and VAR was correct.
Do they actually look at every decision in every game or just the ones higlighted by the media or on social media?
Do the clubs request certain decisions are reviewed?
Is that the exhaustive list of wrong decisions seen by the BBC or is it just a list of the ones leaked to the BBC?
They say they judge decisions on both the Laws of the Game as well as 'what football would expect' so who is 'football' and who decides what 'football expects'? Is it what the fans expect or what Howard Webb expects as they are two very different things.
These KMI reports are useless to fans as we have no idea the answers to so many of the questions around them as they aren't written for fans. They're only supplied to the Premier League, the clubs and PGMOL so we only really hear about them when they're leaked, more than likely by a party attempting to take the heat off a decision going their way which is why we suddenly heard of their decision that Everton should have had a penalty against us when the entire footballing world was calling out the match fixing in the Arsenal - West Ham game.

Forest have won 2 but I agree with the point you're making.

We've seen how hard it is to win, particularly whilst competing for the PL. Just look at how many English sides have won the league and CL in the same season.

We were the best side in Europe undoubtedly for a number of years but it didn't quite happen for us. We should have won one more, but I think the dippers having as many as they do even if over several decades isn't something to baulk at. It makes them a powerhouse of European football.
I think it is fair to point out that Liverpool played 5 matches ro win their first European cup, one fewer than the rags did to win the FA cup that year and this was the same for all their Europen cups in the 70s and 80s, whereas Arsenal played 10 to lose the 2006 final. The only game that we would consider at all difficult for Liverpool in '77 was St Etienne, beaten finalists the year before. So, if the number of matches played domestically has had an effect on English clubs (though fewer league matches are played) the number and strength of CL clubs have made the CL more difficult to win. But Arsenal have also found the PL very difficult to win! But then they only entered the CL in 2004 as the fourth best English team.

Yes but they won the league to qualify for it. Luck of the draw plays it's part but they had to win a league title to be in it.

I would like to think that Luis Enrique will have his guys ready. I think there has to be some context to the lead up here. Speculation of course but - this is PSG's 5th Ligue 1 title in a row? I'm sure there were celebrations but I'm sure they were tempered too. Arse won their first league title in 22 years. Celebrations galore. Its not like they had two weeks off. Yes they played alot of their bench but - their starters got in as well. They played.

I'm hoping with fresh legs, PSG will run their game. I'm sure they've viewed our Carabao Cup final and our home game against Arse. They'll be ready.

Arsenal struggled in all 3 games they played us this season.

No shame in acknowledging that PSG are clearly a class above us at this moment in time

Just get the job done Paris. It would be a travesty if this Arsenal team achieved the double

1-0 off a corner is the only way those twats are going to win. Dreading the thought. Come on PSG do the world of football a favour......Keep forgetting it's on at 5!

Think it depends how lenient the officials are today with the corner tactics

If like most European refs they probably call for fouls are every bit of contact which for the record I hate because they blow for everything but for today I'll allow it

God the talk around them is fucked. Like good on them for winning the league but fuck me they are a ways away from greatness.
