Art and Literature valuation

Rock and roll thread for a Saturday night!

However has anyone had anything like this valued. Basically my dad has (or more accurately had rip dad) a handwritten verse of “Digging” by seamus Heaney.

How would you go about it and how much would it cost roughly to value. Thanks

Best way will be to get it in a specialist auction. They’ll give a pre auction estimate and you can set a reserve. Their fees will be something like 10-15% of hammer price + VAT.

Or you can pay for a valuation if you intend to keep it. That’ll cost £100-200 and you add it to the insurance if it’s worth a few quid and use that as a valuation record.

Good luck mate, obviously it’s not a nice topic and sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Nice words and sound advice. Would like to keep it in the family but as always these things are convoluted.

Would you be interested in a tin of Sainsburys Herring Roe, circa 1989. Bought as our first ' shop ' with the previous wife and now providing much apres dinner conversation with the present one. Excellent provenance.
I'm afraid I'd have to turn my nose up from that one old boy, sounds a bit fishy to me.

Put it in a bank vault while you find out! Probably one of if not his best known poem.
