Artemis II

World land speed record by comparison is 763mph.
The funniest thing about this is people don't realise that we're moving right now. The Earth is moving right now at 67,000mph through space and it also spins on its axis at 1,000mph.

We are basically sat typing this on a spinning spaceship where the point that we are at right now is not the point that we were at 1 second ago. And we'll never return to that point ever again because our whole solar system and galaxy is also moving.

Tack a few beers onto that and it's a wonder how we ever make it home after a night out... ;-)

True bloody true mate the whole cosmos is a complete mystery. I often wonder if we are actually here.

Trump got the Artemis project off the ground in his first term, so I’m afraid he will be enveloping the glory. However for me this is a NASA achievement.
His proposed cuts to NASA are almost 50% - which would be the largest cut ever for the agency. Whatever the US is doing in Iran has cost more than the entire NASA budget…in less than two weeks.

I was three when the first moon landing was accomplished and my wife is astonished how indifferent I am to this mission considering I am a science geek.

Yep. I still can't wrap my head around gravity.

The idea that a clock on a satellite in orbit ticks slower than a clock here on the ground is bonkers.

You’re almost correct…

We are actually on the back of four giant elephants who are in turn standing on A’Tuin, the turtle…hurtling through space…

Considering the actual moon landing was based on the technology and the science of over 50 years ago, I, personally, do not rate this mission is anywhere near as impressive, despite all the hype.
Apparently, the astronauts flew further from the earth than ever before, I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the news coverage.

It was between 1% and 2% further though, mind blowing stuff.

Some of us do.

It doesn't. It's all about frames of reference (relativity, as some once theorised). A second on the International Space Station lasts as long as a second here on the ground, but only if you are on the ISS.

To those on the ISS, a clock ticks slower on earth.

To the poster who wondered if 'we' are here at all, that's also a fascinating concept, questioning the very essence of existence. Not unlike Spurs', where there existence in the Premier League is looking rather unlikely.

My soon to be daughter-in-law was telling me that a friend of hers collected seeds for the National Tree Seed Center and some of her seeds went up with Artemis.

They want to see how they germinate after being in space.
