Ashes 2017/18

Moeen struggled to get the ball to straighten and Lyon is turning it round corners. Surely we must have better spinners than him?

Not looking great Root gone if Ali stays in after dinner till tea we might have a half decent score but not enough we need 250

He has just got better at his craft I think.

yes, but comparatively our batting has dropped off a cliff. Plenty of nice, pretty stuff in the first innings as Swann said, but well outside off-stump that a top class batsman would have cut away all day and really knocked Lyon's confidence. Instead we sat in all day and waited for them to get bored and aggressive and then got out straight away.

If that wicket was say an offside decision reviewed on VAR in football I'd have expected it to be given as offside.

Maybe if Ali had been a bit more careful batting and taken into account he made a similar error a few balls earlier (with his swing not his feet) then we wouldn't have had to have the discussion.

Hindsight.

There was a lot of talk about our batting before the tour but the bowling is a bigger worry. Don't see us taking twenty wickets often in these conditions so if that's the case you can't have Broad, Anderson and Ball as 9/10/11 against this Aussie attack. We really need Stokes back for the balance of the team.

Going to get battered by a shit Aussie team. I don’t think stokes would make a lot of difference.
Thought this ashes was difficult to call tbh because they really are not a great team but it's looking like it could be a white wash. Not sure whether Stokes would have made a difference to the result of the whole thing and it might sound daft when the end result of this test is going to be a bit of a hiding, but, this match was tight enough for long enough and England had enough moments where they looked like they could take the game away from Australia for me to think he could well have made a difference in this test.
