Ashes 2017/18

Terrible performance. 368-4 to losing by an innings! Not many teams would be capable of that!

I think Cook will go voluntarily as he has a nice little life on his farm and has toured a lot and given a lot to England. He might last one more summer. Big disappointments have been Root, Ali and Broad though. Broad is coming to an end I think.

Yep. From that position to then be annihilated is just not good enough.

Reminds me of the 2nd test in Adelaide in 2006 under Freddie. We declared on over 550 runs with wickets left in the first innings and still got battered. And that was another 5-0.

There's a very easy answer to why this is happening regularly - If England score 400 that means, whatever the conditions, it's a 600 run wicket. Same with the bowling - If we get a team 3 down for 100 they'll still score 400+ because we don't have the capability to kick on and win from good positions.

Wonder if Bayliss will go and whether Fabrace would be given a chance.

Our we going to make any changes or are they going stick there heads in a hole keep the same team only to go 4-0?

This scenario seems to encapsulate English cricket for as long as I've watched it, with one or two exceptions. If we beat the Antipodeans it's mainly because they are shit. If teams are evenly matched it's a fair bet that England would be the team to collapse in one or both innings! The better the start for an England cricket team, the more I fear a collapse! They are the Man City v Luton in the famous cup tie - 6-2 up and then 3-1 down!

its to late to start again the damage been done 2 years ago and the ECB new the ashes was the main tour coming up and did nothing and for a touring england team to australia we send a part time spin bowler and swing bowlers and the open batting order in a right mess and a young captain without control of his players on or off the field shambles is a nice way of putting to lose the ashes like we have is a disaster and the ECB will have to answer to the media and the cull is coming even root should be demoted back to just playing and a strong captain put in place and for the rest of the ashes tour cook should not bat again for england even in the 2 test left he should be made to walk away right now what have we to lose if somebody comes in a number one

ECB will deflect any wrong doing to the team but somebody should stand up in the media of ex-players like boycott botham and call for a review of the board and not just add a puppet in andrew strauss and his job should be gone aswell what sort of middle man if your told what to say and do so a big change is needed and the ECB should be the first place for the cull many members are to old and just don't give a shit and not in touch with modern cricket boycott botham should have a say in english cricket they tour with there jobs in the media and many more good people from cricket are also in the media and know what is needed

Dude, you right some interesting stuff and have some interesting thoughts, but your stream of babble style makes it really difficult to read the full length of your post without passing out. Do us, and yourself a favour and drop in a couple of commas and full stops here and there.

think counties would need to start being the third tier of cricket for England to progress. I'd like to see the city based T20 expanded so that you have the best county players put into small city based teams who then play 4 series in 4 continents each year. So you have an Aussie first class and one day mini-competition between the English cities, Indian city teams, SA city teams and Aussies, followed by the Big Bash. Then you go to SA and do the same, then India followed by the IPL and then they come to England and play the city based T20 alongside a county and one day mini-series.

That way the best young cricketers play all 3 forms in different conditions every year, if they're really good and get called up their place is plugged by the counties. The mini-series can be played around the big club T20s and the international players can plug in where available. I think a 3-form International city based Super League would be the way forward.

Steve Smith has saved England's cricketers another kicking.

By deciding not to force the follow on in the second test means we're not talking about two consecutive innings defeats.

Grammer police dont you just love them.

Our climate does not help us to produce hard fast pitches and hence the lack of really quick bowlers.

When we finally find a real quickie we flog him to death until his body packs in.

The wickets also stop batsmen developing a proper technique to cope with chest high deliveries and they end up dangling their bat at the ball.

You get a bang ordinary spinner who can bat a bit and he goes straight into the test side, get a proper spinner for the wickets away from home.

This current Ashes side is only going to get worse in the final two tests as the Aussies have our number.
