Foden had scored 27 last season. Alvarez finished on 19. Foden isn't a striker and doesn't take penalties. Our recruitment policy or lack of one has caused this decline.
I can't believe someone thought it was a good idea not to replace Alvarez.
Keep blaming the injuries all you want (and it is an issue) but the bigger issue is the players that ARE available
Gundo and Lewis - neither are good enough -Gundo once was but he is FINISHED - done ...his career anywhere near the top is over. Lewis will never be good enough....said it last year - he aint a fullback and he aint a midfielder....not good enough in either position - Id drive both of them out the exit door gladly
Grealish - said when we bought him he is overrated....people reckoned he could be the next KDB - HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!! This team have carried him every year he has been here bar one....he is one of the symptoms of our demise - over paying for average English talent - (Phillips anyone!!!) - I would sell him in a heartbeat even for 15m or less
Stones - couldnt last more than half a game again - needs to be sold - along with AKE - both good servents but they are now the past. ...but realistically no one is going to buy them with their injury records and wages so we are going to have to let them go on free's
Walker - like Gundo - finished!! - not his fault but time to say good bye - his career is done at the top level...let him go to sheffield utd or somewhere on the continent
Bernardo - overplayed
KDB - cant play enough and when he does he is so slow, dispossessed easily and nowhere near the force he once was...and never will be again - there will be the odd spark from him once in a while but that is it...hopefulyl gone in the summer so we can rebuild - let him go to Saudi or the States.....do NOT give him a new contract or give him another season - biggest mistake we could make
And there are people in here actually blaming Haaland - have you not wathced him for the past few seasons - he is never a player who can run around, drop deep and get invovled in play - he is the best goal scorer in the world but he needs service....he is getting nothing from the midfield. - there is no point in him running around like a headless chicken - it achieves nothing.
Nothing changes this season - and PLEASE dont say Bruno G from Newcastle will solve it.....he is Newcastle level at BEST
Get used to this till next season - this season is all about survival
No comfort as Liverpool aside we have started favorites in every game and have a record of 1-2-9.While not much comfort, the timing of whatever is wrong at present has coincided with some relatively tough fixtures. A few easier matches, if won, could have alleviated the pressure.
Sorry but I can't find the sympathy this season with the Club.15 games, 50 days, clearly a lot of injuries, very few easy games in that 15.
We are well off our best without doubt. We will get better. No one has ever achieved what we have.
Musicians release crap albums. Actors make bad films.
That we'd not made him make a save? What was their **** of a goalie crying about at the end of the first half?
It mean very little if the players don't want to join us for one reason or another to replace the aging starts. Rather than waste money on another Kalvin Phillips or a Wilfred Bony they decided to ride out this season with who we got along with Gundo's return and another promising player with Savio. What happened we got a freak injury with Bobb and then it went rapidly downhill after a good away win vs Chelsea.
I agree we are too nice. The foul count was 14 villa 7 us.That 2nd half was absolutely awful. The 1st half wasn't good, but that 2nd half was really bad.
We're too nice a team. Happy to pass it around side to side and try to keep the ball but we don't penetrate teams anymore and when the opposition have it, we don't attack them, we just stand off and let them play through balls behind the defence. The 2nd goal a perfect example of just letting them run through untouched. Rodri would've stuck his foot in and took a booking for the team if needed but none of these lot are willing to do it or work hard enough.
We simply have to buy in January. 2 or 3 players are needed minimum. The midfield especially is crying out for some physicality and creativity.
But that is the problem. You are accepting they are immortal immediately after they won the league, I'm not. Yes it hurt more because it was the rags but professional athletes do not go on the piss before the season has ended. They became immortal when they won 4 in a row. Nobody would give a fuck if we’d lost to anyone else.
;-)Sooner we get 40 points the better, but even that’s looking a stretch at moment
We definitely do..not dirty Athletico shyte..but ..some fighting spirit and determinationWhy do we need aggression?
We need lots of fresh , exciting high quality players and a bigger squad ready to take the premiership by storm , the current crop with a few exceptions are finished.
Maybe try making one post that isn't all about hating on Grealish? You sound deranged.Jack has been carried since day one , flatters to deceive on a major level , not given to any other player in the squad , unfair criticisms ? Maybe , but he’s shite , stunting better players who deserve much more play
We were good enough to beat them and dealt with what they had to offer at the time. And that is without Rodri.True, but I think we caught Chelsea 'unprepared' to be fair. We weren't that good at Stamford Bridge, and haven't been all season truth be told.
Khaldoons end of season talk will be interesting
At some point in the summer there must have been a thorough assessment of the squad. We can only suspect the belief was that we were good to go. Notwithstanding the injuries, the club was obviously aware of players ages, previous seasons exertions and our continued reliance on certain players. I think they gambled and it's backfired unfortunately.Sorry but I can't find the sympathy this season with the Club.
The club and the coaches all know from our success that we usually go deep into competitions. A minimum of around 60 games would be expected. Pep knows the relentlessness and rigours of the Premier league schedule more than any manager.
To continue those aspirations of winning lots of trophies, calculations must take place, on squad numbers, player development/promotion to senior squad, transfers and also injuries must come into that calculation.
I find it hard that pre season no one has asked the question - what if Rodri gets injured. Or Haaland? And has also looked at the ages of the senior players and thought "Yep, we're good to go again"
