Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't think people should be too surprised by that performance or result. As soon as I saw the starting XI with Bobb and Savinho, I knew we would be non existent as an attacking force. Could they both become decent players in the future? Maybe - but right now they'd be barely good enough for a side with Europa Conference aspirations.

No Rodri and No Nico in the starting XI was also a major blow. It meant we struggled on the transitions and gave away too many cheap chances.

Then you've got players like O'Reilly on the bench when he's previously added in more steel and grit to the side - which was sorely missing today.

I can't stress how important it is that we add quality wide options next summer. There were several people on this forum saying they didn't want Rodrygo because we had Bobb and Savinho. Utterly mental analysis. This is why you don't judge football on just stats.
Imagine not wanting Rodrygo because you have Bobb and Sav. Wtf!

I said repeatedly on here that Bobb had done nothing in his career and yet people were talking like he was the messiah!

Just madness.

One of those days that can unfortunately hit us at any point out of the blue these days despite our form or momentum.

Bounce back and how the next one is far apart.

The first half was absolutely awful and we simply had no midfield. They ran the show and looked dangerous on every break. I hope we don't see that midfield setup again as it was flawless, no shape and offered nothing.

Second half was better but let's be honest we just didn't look like scoring today. Haaland was unlucky but the service was dire. Got to be said, the more I see of Savinho the less I like - no idea what he's done to deserve a new contract.

I thought Doku was good when he came on and the touches Cherki had were good - hope to see more of him.

I know he's not good enough for us but I would love a player like Onana. He was fuckin everywhere today and strong as an ox. He deserved MOTM I thought.

Overall the best team won.

If Haaland was playing for Villa today he’d have got 3 or more.

When we played with two ‘wingers’ we didn’t get a cross in to him. It amazes me how little we use him in general play. It seems any time we can potentially play him in, we turn back inside/backwards to recycle, then end up giving it away playing a riskier ball in midfield than we could have played to Haaland earlier in the move.

Also, dont remember a game where as many of our players were just bouncing off opposing players in any 50/50. Looked like men v boys.

Bad day at the office.
Same happened v Spurs. Got bullied and shit ourselves.

9 unbeaten, Getting into a great rhythm, big chance to go well ahead of the dippers. What does pep do? Fucking brain farts and decides to go with no CDM and Oscar fucking Bobb and Savinho on the wings when you’ve got Marmoush Doku Cherki all sat twiddling their thumbs. Soon as I saw the lineup I know how today would pan out. All on pep that for fuck sake man

Knocks and injuries dictated the starting line up but pep was too slow changing things around. We need to try and get as many technical players on the pitch as we can given the make up of the squad. Time to give Cherki a start and nurse roddders back

Very ooor from a lot of mediocre players who are not at our level . Nunes savinho bobb doku straight away need to be binned at nearest opportunity.

Embarrassing performance all around. Everyone and their dog knew that we are too reliant on ONE person. Our wingers don’t contribute. We effectively had no midfield today. The changes came too late. It’s no wonder or rebuild is taking so long. It’s the lack of urgency for me that does my head in. 15 mins left and they walk with the ball as if we haven’t won her since 2022. What was the gameplan today ? Set pieces are useless. Nobody is gonna take a risk. It’s just “wait for Haaland to score a magical goal and defend”

Fair enough. Villa very good today.

We're definitely better than last season but we're not quite there yet and crucial injuries made that job harder. Villa in good form and they fought hard.

We'll finish a distant 2nd to Arsenal and go for the cups, but I've been saying that since the Palace cup final. Still lots of things to play for and be proud of this season.

Yet another game though in which Savinho and Bobb were totally anonymous. They've missed their chance. Time for Doku, Cherki, and Marmoush.

An improvement on our last couple of performances at Villa Park though, and I'm gonna call it: this will be the last game we lose until 2026.

Meh. We should have done a lot more, but we lose to a goal from a corner that never should have been a corner. Work to do but a lot better than last year.

Cue a lot clueless moaners that genuinly expect us to never ever lose a game of football

Its not about never expecting to lose

Its about be set up to give us the best chance to win

You can not seriously tell me you saw the starting 11 and had any confidence in it ...

Thats the difference

Should have added quality winger last year
