Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Replacing the legends we had here was always going to be difficult, will take us a few years to get back to where we once were since there's a shit load of deadwood here that needs moving on asap

One step forward and two steps back. Pretty much the season so far in a nutshell.
There are several players who should be asking serious questions of themselves and unfortunately on days and performances like today that includes Pep.
Still very early and still in the mix fortunately but we would struggle to finish mid table with too many games of that quality from us.
If the lineup was due to medical advice then I can accept it, if it was tactical it was fucking batshit crazy.

I don’t expect us to win every game.
I don’t expect us to win the league every year.

But I expect to be able to call out a shit performance.
That was awful.

It’s The same problems we’ve had for over a year.
wingers who aren’t good enough.
A defence which looks weak.

For all the money we’ve spent the only position which has improved (no slight at Ederson) is the Keeper.

I don’t think the team is good enough.

Another thing, I was watching barca and they aren't exactly amazing right now but one thing they do is move the fucking ball with purpose, they don't have every single player who receives it doddle on it and analyse where to pass only to pass it sideways again, they just move it continuously and as the opportunity comes it's pinged.
Those two teams have quality players all over the pitch, city lacks in many positions atm.

Not for the 1st time during his tenure but that one is on Guardiola.
A Carabou cup line up FFS
I agree but clearly he has players which aren't fit enough for a full match.

And so he was kinda forced to make drastic changes.

I thought we started brightly but then lost our way after 15 mins. Dominated the 2nd half but just one of those days. A very close offside goal (correctly) ruled out and some excellent blocks from Villa defenders stopped us getting something from the game.

I thought we played some decent stuff at times but we really need a bit more from our wide players, none of whom really created anything of note. Would have liked Cherki to get more minutes as he is the type of player that can make a difference in these kind of games.

Just when you thought Hincliffe could not get more annoying... he has been full anti-City today, (not that we have been good) but back to the days where the commentary has been as if we are an overseas team
So fucking what? We’ve known it for years he’s a ****, if your still paying Sky after all the shit then that’s on you.

That was abysmal and entirely down to the manager. Everybody here could see the problems we'd have with that side, if we all saw it and were right, what has possessed Pep to go with it?

That was a very ordinary and tired villa side who just lost to go ahead eagles a few days ago and will probably get beat by the dippers next week too, it's not a case of we were beaten by a good side, we were beaten by our own awful tactics which makes it especially infuriating.

The scum are level with us lol
The league is weird at the moment. Still a long way to go but still not sure where we’ll end up. First defeat in ten suggests we’ll be okay for top 4 but that performance was too much like last season. Maybe as we rebuild we’ll have the odd bad game and I do think it’s always been more than a single season rebuild.

Shit that.

Savinho and Bobb offer zero attacking threat.

Gvardiol is not a full back, Reijnders isn’t a DM.

Need Rodri back asap.

Cherki and Marmoush have to start, how the fuck can a genius like Pep honestly think we’re better with fucking Championship level soft arse Savinho than them? It doesn’t make sense.

Apart from Haaland this team is fucking soft as wet shit. I want players with a John Terry-style attitude to the game, not these soft cunts.

January - sell Savinho, buy Semenyo.

Well the performance from the midfield was exactly as predicted and Pep took too long to change it.

Too many players were just completely off it as well - lack of execution & composure when it mattered in the final third.

Villa did defend really well and threw themselves into every block.
