Aston Villa (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The most telling theme on here today is the complete lack of consensus. Team selection, tactics, multiple players performance, slow predictable over elaborate build up play, they've all been called out. The truth is it's a bit of all of them, and that is the most worrying aspect of all. I have to hold my hands up re Oscar Bobb, I honestly thought we had found an absolute gem, someone who could make the difference in serious games but he seems to have never recovered from his injury. Our dependency on Rodri is also something we have to try to address, performances with and without him are in stark contrast. For me, I hate how much time we waste in games with meaningless possession where all we do is give the opposition time to get back into a defensive 5-5 formation. Lets hope Rodri is back for Bournemouth...

We've got a winger in the juniors (McAidoo) that would be a better option than our current lot.

Because Sav, Oscar and Doku have no output it puts so much pressure on Haaland to score.

Also Reijnders needs to pull his socks up quick smart. A ruthless manager would bench him.
we say stuff like this regularly but it never turns out that way....the step up from academy to first team is a big one and I doubt he would look any better once on the pitch

We really need to sign a top class winger. Every other big club has clinical wingers. We have Doku and Savinho.

Proper defenders in their preferred positions, pace and energy in midfield, score from set pieces nearly every game where we can’t even take a corner and goals and assists from their wide players. As a team they are miles ahead of us atm and will finish at least 15 points ahead of us
I’m willing to bet you a pound that they don’t.
Hoping for a top4 finish and Pep farewell.
dont suppose you can fuck off with him when he goes?

We’re all disappointed in the result and the performance but fuck me that comment about hoping for a Pep farewell is truly shocking.
Instead how about Pep and the team are going through a tough spell but we’ll support you through this for all the memories you’ve given us.
He’s a wum and a troll, can’t believe he hasn’t been bounced years ago

For everyone who is complaining about peps team sheet today, we're you a talented footballer who was then able to transition into managerial roles because football is 99% a closed shop? No? Then fuck off you know absolutely nothing.

Bloodless on the pitch,
bloodless at the sideline.

We early fucked up 4 (four!) superb through balls all being too long.

Poor defending not blocking Cash's shot.

Our pressing has zero efficiency. It just pulls us up the field with the next counter to come in. Brainless.

Our 1v1s were schoolboys vs men. Painful watching.

Completely unnecessary defeat. Handed them 3 points.

Lost to an inferior team who have adopted the 'Arsenal Tactic' of going down and staying down, to cast doubt in the ref's mind, no matter how innocuous the challenge. Everton did the same in the first half last week it's appalling.
I don't like to criticise Pep but the weird obsession he has about making changes after an hour needs to stop. And what's the point of bringing Marmoush on with a couple of minutes to go?

glad someone else said that...despite the results we aint been anywhere near at it.

I think the bigger picture is a lack of quality in the squad....especially in wide positions (wingers and fullbacks)....Reijnders is another problem as well as he is adding nothing.
People can completely ignore the blatantly obvious issues that we have all they like, the truth hurts.

The truth is we are a bang average football team. We've been shit since Spurs at home, yes we've won games but far from convincing performances and lucky to get certain wins along the way.

That today was the same old story from last season to this season, nothings changed.

Our wingers are absolutely terrible, our midfield without Rodri is bang average, Donnarumma saved us alot over recent weeks papering over the defensive issues.

No balance to the side whatsoever. Pep fucked up big time today too there's no hiding it.

Not too disappointed, margins not on our side and Villa did a good defensive display. With some luck we’d have 1p or all 3p. We move on.

I know Pep is big on rotation but sometimes I think starting in our 11 in the PL needs to be based a bit more on merit.

Bobb, Reijnders, Savinho and Gvardiol (LB version) had not earned their place imo and a game like Villa away (when putting a run together and looking like we might actually put in a title challenge) was not the game to start 4 arguably undeserving players.

To be fair they have the best backline. Their LB is the best in the league. Gabriel is basically Ramos cuz he scores more than our wingers. They play 3 CDMs infront of their already disciplined backline. I wish we could score from set pieces
