Strong start, Villa adjusted well, we had no response with a patchwork midfield.
City had a bad spell, Liverpool having a bad spell, and Arsenal yet to have one…early days.
Gigi - Kept it at 1-0. Nothing he could do with the goal.
Nunes - Not a RB, but certainly doesn’t look out of place in this team.
Gvardiol - Agsin, struggling to complain about him, regardless of where he’s asked to play. Gave away a few fouls, but some of them were a joke. Villa floppers!
Dias - Solid.
Stones - Not the fella he was, but can do a job at CB or in midfield, but got a bit lost in a tough tackling midfield today. Still excellent on the ball and knowing where the pass is, but the midfield passed him by a little today.
Reijnders - Looks far better driving forward than as a DM, but the hard work at DM negating his chances getting forward. Ran out of steam, resulting in poor choices and slack passing.
Bernardo - Bit anonymous today, unfortunately, as a strong opposition midfield overran him after the first 15-20 mins. His “assist” should have been his highlight.
Foden - Shows flashes of brilliance, but looks labored, almost unfit at times. Late in the game he has position on the ball but ends up having to foul the lad because he’s completely overpowered. Needs to either start scoring, creating more, or take a few weeks and get fit enough to play 90 mins. He’s such a talisman and showed some serious quality in the pocket, with tight turns, but nothing is coming from it.
Savinho - Running out of excuses.
Bobb - See above.
Haaland - What are you supposed to do with almost zero service and being marked by two top defenders? Well, slot away your best chance would have been nice, but at least it was a strong shot, on target, and required a good save from Martinez. Kept working hard until he sacrificed his nuts for the offside “goal,” but was hobbled from them on.

O’Reilly - Awful.
Gonzales - Made a difference, but not enough.
Doku - Tried, but stifled by a double team. Struggled for impact.
Cherki - Not sure he was given the chance to show what he can do, but still looked lively. If he’s not fit, not sure why he’s getting a game. If he is, he needs a run in the team.
Marmoush - Anonymous other than his brilliant “assist!” Let’s hope he’s getting fit enough to replace one of the wasteful wingers.

Beaten today by a “lucky,” but well taken, goal by a stronger, more organized, more settled team that is very frustrating to play against. They are physically big and strong, yet quick to flop, slow the game down, and frustrate the opposition.
Reacted to the victory like they’d won the League, which tells you who we are, regardless of what some on the Matchday Thread seem to think, but they look and act like a middle third PL team that we should be getting points from, or at least a draw…which should have been today’s result on balance.
Couple of BIG BIG GAMES coming up, so we really need to get players fit, because a full strength XI and bench could be frightening IF we start playing like City can play.
Onwards…
